I becoming a big fan of Danny. He's very detail-oriented and is great at explaining what he's doing. I've never messed with turbos, so this video was awesome because I always like to learn new things. My great grandad showed me the trick of tapping nuts and bolts with a hammer, most people think I'm crazy when I tell them to do that. Great job guys!

Indexing the housings... we have a process in our shop when we pull apart turbos to centre punch the compressor, centre and turbine housing in line with the turbo oil feed line, that way, if one of us say gets hit by a bus, someone else knows how it goes back together.

Good info, but now need some silent solitude to come down off Danny's breakfast of Jolt soda, pixie sticks, white cross tabs, pot of full caffeine coffee poured over sugar-pops cereal topped with a glazing of meth/coke frosting... Thanks for the calming chicken clips at the ends! Helps with the spinning and sudden stopping feeling encountered while watching n listening. PPS, the turbine and the compressor wheels are usually individually balanced to neutral balance these days, no need to align turbine and compressor. That being said, you have to know what you are looking at to know.

Is there a reason to be glass beading turbos and heads instead of soda blasting? I know glass beading is more efficient but wouldnt soda blasting be less risky/invasive?
@onhawaii
@onhawaii 4 жыл бұрын
You forgot to mention to check the oil drain hose. And the best is to use a new one. They plug up with burned oil and the pressure makes the seals fail. That is what starts all oil burning in a turbo. It even makes it riskier with a chimed oil pump that makes more pressure. You should think about a restriction in the oil feed to lower the oil pressure in the turbo. Because not every where is higher oil pressure a better thing. If you use non turbo tested oil on the car the oil bakes faster because it does not withstand the high heat from the turbo. If you cant get the oil you use normal you also need to check if it is turbo tested and not only if the viscosity is right.
