@mytube1246 Жыл бұрын
Great analysis as usual Jarrod. However, you perhaps missed a trick. Most of these numbers of KL against the greats of the game might not be as straightforward. In IPL, KL typically settles in, takes on the "lesser" bowlers (probably those you'd slot in yellow or green) and once he's set, towards the 15-20 over mark is when he accelerates. I would be very interested in how he fares against the blue category in the PP. To my observation, the numbers ought to result very poor numbers: low SR low Avg. Now the problem arises fundamentally for two reasons: a) there are no green or yellow blowers in most top T20I squads today, which shakes up KL routine play and results in "soft" dismissal (point here, the way one gets out is often overlooked but for me has always been a great marker - if you get a peach or a you hold out on the boundary rope trying to attack, that is a good dismissal for me) and b) as a result of a he puts more pressure on Rohit and Virat when batting with them. All things said and done, the three of them batting in the top three is criminal, especially given that it has not been clicking forever now. Having said that they are among India's best against high pace and are hard to rest/drop/declare injured. My questions/suggestion is why not bat KLR at 5/6 slot in T20Is and at the same time throw Rishabh/Sanju up to open. It negates two problems a) Rishabh and Sanju are both quality fast cars, it is in their nature to bat that way which will aid both Rohit and Virat. Depending on the situation Virat walks out at the fall of a wicket if not, SKY walks in to continue the momentum. B) KL has unreal range against high pace, I would argue he'd be neck and neck with SKY (maybe even edge him over), why not make his entry point be post 14 overs and push Hardik up against spin which he is so very good at hitting in comparison. KL also now has nearly a decade on international batting experience and has seen all sorts of pressures to soak in the tense moments and know what to do. He might be the ideal "finisher", an enhanced version of DK - better against spin. He can have lesser things to worry about such as innings building and the threat of spinners or that shining white ball. I guess it is a solution staring India in the eye but somehow, typical to them, they have applied it (although correctly) in the wrong format. I would like to leave you with a possible batting orders: 1. Rohit (would wait till the IPL to drop him). 2.Rishab/Sanju. 3. Virat. 4. SKY. 5. Hardik/Washi/Ravi J (floaters as per opposition and team position). 6. KLR 7. Washi/Hardik/ Ravi J. 8.Ravi J/Washi/Hardi. 9. Yuzi/Ravi Bishnoi/Umraan. 10. Mohd. Shami. 11. Jasprit Bumrah. This would more or less be my approach for the WT20 in USA..

This is genuinely a brilliant 11 but I don't rate Umran much as of now and would like to have Arshdeep, who as the 2nd or 3rd bowler would be criminally good. Also, I do feel that Rohit and even Virat would voluntarily drop from the T20 side and it could give space for guys like Tripathi and Sanju. Just praying that all 3 of our floaters/all-rounders are fit for that world cup because we really don't have any backups. P.s. Just saw KLR there and I personally would disagree. But we really need to try somebody new, maybe Tewatia or Tripathi or Hooda if he is ready to bat at 6 or maybe even Kishan?
@AmanKumar-de1kc Жыл бұрын
Shaw in place of Rohit, or Rishabh and Sanju as openers. The only way Rohit makes a comeback is if he hits the treadmill. Shami is a spent T20 force. I don't see him being a part of a new looking team. I'd rather have KL at 5.
@mytube1246 Жыл бұрын
@@MannanGoel I genuinely love Arshdeep for his skill and heart but he doesn't fit into the scheme of things. I would want a proper enforcer in the middle phase to extract wickets. The spinners we have are defensive hence throwing in 2-3 overs of Umraan between 8-14 is a blessing. He compliments the attack - freeing up Jasprit for the end and Shami for the top. I think he is the aggressive element we miss. Next up, I think KL is a way better bat than either of the Rahuls or Deepak. I would take a chance with that quality and if he fails there too, drop him for good from the format.

@@AmanKumar-de1kc I am dying to see Prithwi in Indian colors myself. I would definitely have in the scheme of things too. But I rate Rishabh a bit higher because of his versatility and would give the quality of Rohit another IPL before taking a call. Remember Rishabh never got a long rope at the top. His role needs to be redefined and then evaluated. But yes, Prithwi deffo to be around the team.

@@mytube1246 To that fast bowlers debate, I'll add that let's look at 2024 pov and then I see Arshdeep playing the Shami role, and Umran being matured enough to play the role you suggest. Hi Jarrod, great video. For the Strike Rate / Year line graphs you could have the y axis start above 0? I know it technically isn't good practice as it distorts the graph and exaggerates the difference between points, but in this context I think it could actually be the better option. A strike rate of 120 and 160 are vastly different, but on your graphs it seems quite minimal. Cheers

Good analysis. Really loving the post mortem series. Keep it up. Looking forward to more episodes and quality analysis. Though, I feel in today's episode you missed out on a couple of things which might be very interesting as far as KL Rahul and his performance/criticism is concerned. Analysing the phases of play as well as performances in clutch moments or important knockout games. Based purely on anecdotal memories that I can recall, KL Rahul fails almost every time in important knockout games and is extremely slow in the first phase thereby putting a lot of pressure to accelerate on whoever is batting with him, his strike rate is maintained usually by him catching up in later phases specially against 5th or 6th bowlers and this is probably something that is common with most good anchors though, out of the 3 India carried, I feel he is the one who could had the most potential to explode even in the first phase providing the kind of start you need in T20s and was thus, even more disappointing.

Personally feel the role of an anchor boils down more to the match situation than any particular individual persay If your openers bat 12 overs of the innings, there's no more room for anchoring from the next few batsmen even if that's their nature of play Contrast to this is An aggressive batter walks in at 3 down in the powerplay. He obviously has to play down his aggressive instinct and reassess Beautiful analysis, loved it!

I feel just because Rohit became a successful ODI opener and India played t20s as extension of ODIs he started opening in t20Is too. Rohit's greatest IPL season as a batsman came when he batted in the middle order. The code of success he cracked as ODI opener of taking time early on and accelerate & explode later hasn't translated equally well in t20s. After looking at those beautiful and informative charts, I infer it has to do with the dot ball percentage of 44-45. He is not very good at strike rotation unlike other anchors like Kohli, Babar, Rahul and he plays far more risky shots to maintain the strike rate these anchors do by playing low risk shots . On his day he can be very destructive that is why he has 4 T20I centuries but since he plays too many risky shots for an anchor he is not very consistent. Even though he changed his batting approach in 2021 and became a lot more attacking at the start of his innings, it brought some success initially but overall didn't bring the results the team was hoping for.

India is great at producing "anchors". Kohli , Rahul , Rohit , dhawan and Noe you have Iyer. The sad part is that these anchors ( except Kohli ) don't seem to get going in difficult conditions when they are really needed but manage to waste deliveries on flat pitches when they should ideally be Accelerating. Kl Rahul is the perfect example of an anchor who will get out in difficult conditions and will waste deliveries o on flat pitches.

Different conditions need different tactic, because in Australia, big grounds require more running than hitting.
@davidburke2132 Жыл бұрын
And yet the team that won the tournament is packed full of big hitters. Frankly the size of grounds in Australia is largely a myth, especially in this World Cup. Firstly ropes often are not at the extremities of the field. Secondly, in a tournament which repeatedly uses the same grounds there have to be multiple wickets which means many matches have unequal boundaries to each side, and that invariably means some smaller boundaries are around.

J.Rod ---- I still think that talking about anchors, strike rates, averages, dot ball percentages is a cultural issue. India is a batting country... I think Australia is a batting country as well. The way we talk about cricket in terms of attack and defense has a batting tilt. The glaring issue since the last 5 ICC ODI and T20 WCups has been --- Taking wickets.. defending scores... Its almost as if as a team we need a strike bowler who adds as much value as a Virat, SKY do... a clutch bowler who knows how to restrict a team and finish matches--- The value that MSD bought to us!![A captain finisher]

Kl Rahul and Rishab Pant are the failures of Indian team. Period. After Peak Kohli, i think Kl and Pant scored 600+ runs with 50+ average and 150+ strike rate. And how they were rewarded was by not giving them chances because Ms and Shikhar are our big players. Kl Rahul in his first 25 odd international matches had numbers i had never seen in t20 cricket, average 50, striking at 150 and yet he was dropped for Shikhar and Raina. Even when Shikhar was in worst form, they still play him to get him back in form but will not drop him. It took Kl Rahul 4 ipl to be top 2 scorers to get a permanent opener slot. Name one country where Kl wouldn't have been an openers since that twin century. But no... We what a player who is slower and doesn't score big runs. Kl-Rohit, 1000+ runs as openers at 11 runs per over with 50+ average, and they had only opened together 19 times before the t20 wc in 2021. Kl debuted for India in 2016 btw. Because you wanted an anchor in Shikhar. And this is happening again with Shikhar in ODI. Subhman is scoring faster, quicker and impactful runs, yet he is to be dropped, not Dhawan. When finally India moved on from Shikhar, Kl was already were turned into anchor by Punjab. And I don't blame punjab. You want your best player to finish game. And in this case it literally means finish games cause Punjab choke like anything. It was Kl or nothing team. And now to Pant. Pant was a middle over batters whose job was to destroy the middle overs. But since Dc didn't have a finisher, they wanted him to play that role. He bat 5 and try not to get out before the death overs. Now i see the same thing happening with Hardik. I like his capacity style but Please don't make him Indian capital and turn him into an anchor. Make anyone the captain, Bumrah or even Kl, he is even used to taking pressure... But please don't destroy Hardik by the term, "Captain's innings". Learn something form KKR. They don't have good records recently but they didn't make their best players captain, Russell or Naraine. If they were Indian, they would have. Btw I would also like to highlight another fact - since we are comparing teams and we care about winning, would be great if you showed the economy rates of Indian bowlers at the same time and excess runs given due to poor fielding and lousy and lazy captaincy. I reckon looking at batting and anchors only tells half the picture, because it really doesn't explain how PAK another anchor team and done so well in WCs and other championships compared to India - it's the bowling of Pakistan which like the 90's is still the best bowling line up in the world. As an example, consider this - Indian spinners (supposedly strength) get tonked meanwhile Indian anchors play out oppositions spinners (another supposed strength) at a run a ball. This is where Indian batting has gone down (even your own charts showed the mediocre strike rate of KL rahul against spinners). This is so poor that Pakistan (another conservative team) scored faster of Leech in a test match (Multan) on a pitch with extreme difficulty to score fast than India does in ODIs or T20s.

Firstly the pressure of expectations of the fans of this cricket mad nation and secondly the pressure of being in the team when there is an equally talented and deserving guy sitting out. No other country's players have to go through this kind of pressure. So the only way to reduce this pressure is by sending 2 🇮🇳 teams to the World Cup. Just imagine 2 Indian teams in two different groups of the World Cup with one sporting the dark blue jersey and the other wearing the light blue jersey. I don't think the ICC will have any objection either. India contributes to almost 80% of the revenue earned by the ICC and with 2 Indian teams the ICC can make more money out of it. So it's a win-win for everyone. 😅 This is the only solution. Food for thought 🤔 I don't know whether you read the comments Jarrod but if you do, would love to know your opinion. 🙏🏼

That would be dumb because india at the end of the day is a country and european union is a alliance. Its like saying that china should have more than one team because they are big. At the end of the day they both are big countries but still countries

don't worry, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant will score crucial runs in pressure situations for India.

When you see that India has more anchors in T20 cricket than England has in test cricket it really shows you how far behind India really is even in its supposed strength (batting). With bowling and fielding don't even get started.

@@nazalmoideen Let me rephrase ...He struggles against seam+bounce bowling , where there is lot of movement of the pitch...And that mostly happens in limited overs too(Cause they cant play defensive in limited overs)...He has struggled against the pak pace attack because there was movement of the pitch...or else he would have smashed them
@shrikrishna19993 Жыл бұрын
@@atharvpatil0 Yeah well explained , same happens with Rohit too in some sense he has great stats against Pak in ODIs because he negates the new ball spell by playing defensively but has horrible numbers against same bowlers in T20Is.

@@atharvpatil0 As far as I'm aware, 90% of batters suffer in said conditions. Secondly, it would nice if you actually had stats backing up your point like how Jarrod has in this video. If you do not, no one has any reason to believe what you said, as anyone can make any assumption against any batter without evidence. Lastly, It doesn't matter if he has one or two specific weaknesses if all other aspects of his game are great. Those weaknesses don't automatically make him anything less than a brilliant batter.

The problem is not anchors, the problem is unperforming and choking anchors
@saoirsedeltufo7436 Жыл бұрын
The problem definitely is anchors. India are playing an outdated style of cricket without the best XI available
@ravimaithreyregulagedda2158 Жыл бұрын
you're missing the point of the video if that's what you got from it. the problem is there are too many anchors. anchors have their place but if everyone's playstyle is that of an anchor the team suffers. that's what jarrod pointed out with the data in the first graph.

In which era are you living? Have you had a look at English cricket team in Test cricket? The joke is Indian team has more anchors in T20 cricket than England has in test cricket which is proven by the fact that even on rank turner in PAK they scored at a rate that Indians would drool at even in ODIs, and on flat deck in Rawalpindi they put Indian batting in T20 to shame. England scored more runs in first 10 overs of a test match (67) vs 45 in T20 match by India in WC semi final on an absolute belter.

Stop assuming you guys know about everything 🤦. You guys are talking about choking anchors like kl Rahul, without Kohli we wouldn't have won almost any of the games this year wct20. Kohli didn't underperfom. We need him likewise we need 2 anchors in a team, fill the rest of the members with attacking players but not hitters like west indies. Players like Samson, pant, sky should be in the team.

Indian cricket is just boring these days. I'd rather watch England play these days than India. Sorry the statement of national duty from timid and unfit players just doesn't convince me.

Hmmmm...you're wrong about Pant though. He's a rather limited player in this format. He is good against average bowlers on SMALL grounds. Doesn't have the fitness, strength to clear larger boundaries or the skill to manoeuvre the field (like Yadav can) against top level international bowlers. And no, Ponting is not responsible for it. The others are just selfish, and prefer to play for their average.
