This was a really thought-provoking video. I often do let many small purchases keep me from reaching my larger, much more important goals. They have definitely NOT taken my life in the direction I want to go in. Thanks for helping me think through shopping in a much different way. I would like to move forward towards freedom from debt and this helped put things in a different perspective. I only sabotage myself and my goal when I mindlessly shop. I will be unsubscribing from many retailer's emails to help avoid temptation. Thank you!

I knew my things had really gotten the upper hand with me when I was so worried about going on a vacation & what would happen if someone broke in while I was away (yes I have insurance but replacing those things was still an overwhelming worry). That’s when I realized drastic change was needed. I’ve still had to take baby steps since then, the time since that moment hasn’t been one overwhelming success after the next, but getting better and videos like this are such a huge help and encouragement! It’s so good to find the good on social media.

Out of the many videos I've seen to help with my shopping habit this one really hit! I got a little emotional toward the beginning - I've been numbly buying things without thinking about how I feel or how it emotionally impacts me - thank you!

Know what? I bought from 6 online shops. Stuff I regularly use and new stuff and it made me feel really anxious. I was nervous, I’d forget about it being delivered to the nearby pickup shop, constantly tracking where the packages are. Buying so much at once, revealed so much uncomfortable feelings. I absolutely need a break!

I think that shopping is often a Field of Dreams thing: buy it and the associated experience will come. Clothes do help with accessing certain things and being treated better, but at a certain point it’s about ceasing the collecting and taking real practical steps towards the actual experience; mainly don’t wait to be asked, organize it for yourself (and others depending on the experience). You’ll see you’ll eventually get the feeling you were trying to get through things. It’ll take practice, because the real event will seldom be as magical as the fantasy, but eventually you’ll recognize the feeling of an interesting, fulfilling life of experiences you were actually looking for.

I think what you said about having more time for other things rather then maintaining the stuff you have made so much sense to me. That’s my problem! You hit the nail on the head! It makes me think! The world pulls me but my priorities needs to change.

Question: we are now in a recession and we will have to stop shopping for whatever. The people who have downsized their wardrobes will have to stop buying can’t afford. With smaller wardrobes and recession these wardrobes will wear out so much quicker during a recession. What will people do for clothes, shoes, towels etc. when they have no extra money after food, utilities and house payment?

people feel good at hotels because they don't have to worry about cleaning. i still find joy in looking at things that i worked hard for. even with less stuff i would not enjoy cleaning (because I'm lazy). just saying. minimalism likes to look down on buying things as bad, when in reality (buying things) is how this world survives. it's bad when it's too much but there's a part in minimalism that likes to discredit how our world economy relies heavily on spending.

Only us, the average Joes think that contemplating or talking about money is superficial. The wealthy, this is all they do every day.
