These college kids are being supported by parents who have a lot of disposable income, that sense of entitlement is then passed on to their children. My roommate flew home to Colorado from Indiana each summer and we didn't have a car. She could only take with her what fit in her one checked bag. She would donate the rest but that was work... took finding a place to take it and arranging a ride and sorting her stuff in time to pack and know what she had to leave behind, all during exam week... I can just see how most of these kids, given all that, opt for the dumpster. It probably helps if they know the stuff might get picked up, like the bags of clothes left on the side. At least they can bag it separate from trash and try to leave it in a good place for pickers or divers. If only the locals could set something up to ease donations or connect charities or even resellers with students before their stuff gets to the overflowing dumpsters. Students might not know someone wants their half used soaps and makeup. Post a collection day with what all is desired...but all of that takes time and resources. I mean, it looks like the college puts out larger dumpsters knowing this dumping is going to happen. One school not far away from us posts a few specific days that ppl should put things on the curbs and that ppl should come take things from curbs....it's not very organized but gives things a better shot of being picked up, particularly furniture but all kinds of things get rehomed those few days. While it might take too many resources to really organize it, even narrowing things down to several specific days seems to help both sides out. 41:12 she says all I said lol, I hadnt gotten to the end yet. Cause YES... 25 years ago this was a yearly problem and it still is! Many more students would donate in a better way if someone makes it convenient...that's unfortunate but true...but between the school, community, charities, resellers and maybe even let the parents know.... they can do better.

Kelly, like I mentioned about a year ago, why don’t you start a business where you clean up apartments when kids move out- where they can leave stuff they don’t want and then you can take everything out before it goes into the dumpster. You could charge them their apartment deposit in pay. If you get the final deposit then you can actually hire people to come in to clean and then you can donate or recycle what you find. So basically you would get paid to “dumpster dive” and then you would have the stuff on top of that. You could limit how many apartments you can handle at a time… or maybe work with an apartment complex to park a recycling tuck outside so students moving out can donate their stuff instead of taking to the dumpster. It would save the apartments a TON in dumpster fees. If you advertised what days you will have the truck available, then you could rotate over the days leading up to move out day.

To them yet have enough nerve to charge the prices goodwill charges…it gets me annoyed so bad when I go in to one and see their prices…I have to leave! The goid I’ll they offer is they give employment to disabled or hard to hire individuals…awesome right!? But what they don’t tell u is that they get away with paying them $2-$3/ hour instead of minimum wage like they should be…they’ll hire people on a temporary status to keep from having certain labor laws apply….otherwise they corporation is 100% for profit and keep bumping the prices up to prevent resellers from getting too big of a profit gap in their sourcing needs…so any little thrift store or domestic abuse agencies are the best places to donate…or just giving people the opportunity to look and take before donating is also a good way to make sure items are going to people who need it and not corporations looking to get top resell price off of ur donations…it would be different if the store chains actually bought the donated items from people but it’s all given to them and to see prices like $8 on a used $10 clothing iron is not ok

You could/should contact the local news …people just need to be AWARE and the community can come together with solutions. The news could issue an challenge to the university 🤷🏻♀️ and next year the only use HALF of the dumpsters they had this year. Thanks for rescuing all that stuff ❤

Most of the universities around me here in northwest Pennsylvania have all the students take their unwanted things to a common space and then they hold a stuff a bag sale for the public.

It would be nice if the university's could have a place for the students to be able to leave the really good stuff so that the incoming students could buy it.

Wonderful enjoyable video!!!!! Love to watch you as a couple. Maybe you will give other people incentive to dive at Universitys. I thought young people thought more about the environment but I have a 19 year old niece and they go through their stuff without a thought. Trying to teach her hopefully having some success. I am so proud of both of you

Agree in the same time they arrange for a dumpster they could arrange for charities to provide personnel and trucks so items could be donated.

Makes me sick how much stuff is thrown out! Good on you picking it up…but you’re right, there should be a better way to give them away instead of tossing!

my sister lives near a Leeds University (uk) and she has had some really decent stuff out of the bins she said they also do a big jumble sale at the end of term so the Community can buy things for cheap most items are around £1.

Thank you for your comments at the end of this video! I literally cry about the amount of stuff y'all find. There are so many people in need! I do absolutely believe these Universities and Colleges need to step up with promoting donation bins or volunteers to take usable items and food to local charities. Our nation and mindset of our upcoming youth breaks my heart. They have NEVER had to do without! 😢💔😔

I was just thinking about you today. I was wondering when you were going to put out another video and then you popped up on my notifications. What another great haul. I live near East Carolina University in NC and the amount of great things the students throw out is just crazy. I am not sure about our laws on dumpster diving but Im sure there are a lot of people doing it here. Love your videos!

My friend and I came across a cop while we were diving and he asked what we were doing, I told him we were just looking at this huge dresser and wondered how the hell they got it into the dumpster. The cop got out to look too and joked Superman must of dumped it in there told us to have a great day and left.
