That looks like a great product, giving us e30 owners more wheel options without the hustle of sourcing part's that are expensive lol... Thanks Frank & AK :)

Very nice solution! The front wheel bearing sets of the e30,e36 and e46 most of the time include a new dust shield. And in countries where there is a lot of salt on the roads during winter, the rear bearing replacement is a very big pain in the backside! Don't ask me how I know🤣. Great update Frank. Have a nice weekend, Nico.

I'm having trouble finding hubs for my swingarms. I see in the video that you are pressing the sleeve. Do you know its exact size? There is a big problem with the availability of the hub in the version for the ABS disc (42mm)..

Hi brother. I wanted to know if it is possible to just drill the brake discs to expose the 5x120 holes. I see clips offers brake discs on their website but it makes the kit relatively expensive Update: bought the kit and it has arrived with the brake disks. Can’t wait to fit
@Garageaholic3 жыл бұрын
Yup, if you think you can drill 5x of the holes in the right spot, go for it!
@je30325i3 жыл бұрын
That was a great explanation 👍 I will definitely be watching more of your vids 🙂 The only issue I have with these hubs is the rear hubs where the holes for the 5x120 are drilled through the bevelled edge - there can only be 2 or 3 threads max on that part of the hole?
@Garageaholic3 жыл бұрын
That chamfer is such a small percentage of the circumference of the drilled hole that the thread engagement is virtually unaffected by the chamfer. I should have provided better pictures, but the thread loss from the chamfer is almost non-existent.

I checked out their 5 log conversion hubs few months back. It looks like well manufactured products. However, it really worries me that how you are going to service front wheel bearings once the warranty expires? It does not look like that you can press a bearing in and out of the custom designed hub. Plus Clipz is based in Netherlands. How are they going to support the product in the future is really my concern.
@Garageaholic3 жыл бұрын
I think I said in the video that they will stand behind their products. I asked them that same question for the front hubs specifically. If you have an issue or require a front bearing change for any reason, they will take care of you as a customer. The impression I get is that They feel that confident in the design.

Can we get a 3 month update on this product? Has AK mounted 5lug wheels to test the product yet? Thanks Frank. Keep up the good work.
@Garageaholic3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I’ll have AK comment on the hubs. I don’t believe he’s found a good set of wheels to throw on yet but he is looking for applicable rotors. Standby for more info as I don’t think he’s driven the car much this winter!

@Garageaholic thanks just watched them. Is there a stock/non-big brake rotor and caliper set that can be used? Can an e36 rotor/caliper work or are big brakes the only option when using the 5x120 option?
@Garageaholic6 ай бұрын
@michaelperez8223 nope e36 won’t work. Offsets of the rotor and the e30 caliper bracket location won’t work
@sp4nrs Жыл бұрын
I’m an engineer. Your calcs may be about right for a static or rotating load, but the individual lug loading oscillates massively during cornering, and the cyclic nature of this means that there are many other things at play, which your calculations don’t take into account. The localised stresses fluctuate constantly, which induces fatigue cracking and deformation. Will they fail on a normal car? Probably not. But BMW didn’t add the extra steel as ballast, and there’s a reason that there is empirical guidance on edge and hole to hole distances. This video is a bit like chat GPT - convincing to the layman but more confident than accurate. FEA is a better way to do this, and I would hope that the manufactures have done that themselves.
@Garageaholic Жыл бұрын
Great comment. And after 3 years of relatively heavy use by the customer (no track), there are no signs of wear or cracking this far.

Seeing these calculations it seems that 4 lugs are already strong enough. So why 5 lugs? Only to have more wheel options?
@Garageaholic3 жыл бұрын
That’s about it! There are tons of big brake options for 4x100 so that isn’t quite it. It’s all about wheels
