This is great! I've set out to build a layout roughly the same size as yours and I had reached the stage where I was wondering was it worth it to carry on. All i was getting was 'This won't work' or 'That's going to fail' but you've been a great encouragement. Thanks for that.

Thank you and just keep plugging away the way you want to, take no notice at all of what the theorists out there say because that’s all they are - theorists. They haven’t been to see your layout, they don’t know your circumstances and they don’t know what you have in mind for your future plans either, so in other words, they know bugger all apart from what they may have done in the past or what they ‘think’ won’t work. Have faith in what you are doing and ignore others who doubt you - prove them wrong!! Good luck in your quest my friend for building YOUR model railway! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham

Love your lift out section, really inspired me and given me plenty ideas to think about for my layout which I'm starting in my loft. Ideally I want a small lift up section for access into the central well of the layout rather than crawling under the boards all the time, so seeing your method with adjustable feet, the locking clamps and even the microswitch to provide a constant power is great and certainly worth considering for myself. really looking forward to seeing how new Lakeside progresses.

As you know Graham, I have yet to start on my layout and from what I have learned from you with your method of a lifting section, is good enough for me. Yes there are many ways of doing this, but if it works for you like the way you have demonstrated, then this is the way I shall do it too. Repositioning the hinges makes a much neater job of it as well. You have made a good start Graham and I just want to say Great, Well Done, and Thank You for showing us your method of fitting a lift up (bridge/section) or whatever you may wish to call it Cheers Geoff

Having said that then I’m pleased that you feel that you could adapt this kind of lift up section for your layout too. That’s great to know. 👍. Cheers for now mate. ..........Graham

It really is sad how this hobby has been invaded by trolls and people just out to be nasty for the sake of it, I remember the day's when this hobby was 99% freindly where everyone gave their opinion in a nice balanced way, Society on the whole has forgotten how to communicate properly, People have become so engrossed in their phones that nothing else but me me me matters. Great if you have some advice to give or help but do it in the right way and not as an arrogant know it all or as the internet police this is why so many sites have now banned comments.

ROBS TRAINS Hi Rob, I have to admit that 99% of the time I tend to get good, constructive suggestions which I always welcome but just recently then I have had my fair share of folk who insisted that what I was doing was either wrong or that it wouldn’t work which to a certain extent I can understand but they are not here with me seeing what I am seeing plus they don’t know what I have planned for the future development and even when I show it on video to work then they still don’t believe it will work - it eventually becomes very frustrating hence the reason for me starting to loose my patience with them. Anyway, I’m happy with what I have done which I consider to be the main thing. Cheers for now mate. ..........Graham

long as you're happy with your layout.. i am happy with it. all that really matters, with your micro switch, I would suggest using 2 of them in series. when a micro switch fails 90 percent of the time it is in the closed position. hence not cutting of the power to the tracks. but the other way to look at this, is, you will always be in the room when running trains, and you do have a master switch. so all good. That is just my opinion, I know one thing,, for sure,,,,,I can't wait to see your bigboy thundering through the station platforms. I am getting excited..
@GrahamFoulston
@GrahamFoulston 5 жыл бұрын
sparky107107 My exact thoughts too David and I have to admit that as I was fitting it then that crossed my mind too, but then I thought as you did, I have the master on/off switch which I always use as well so in effect it is only while I am going from the top of the stairs to the bottom where the master switch is that anything could go wrong but I do take your point mate so thank you for that. Also, like you, I can’t wait to see the Big Boy go thundering past, that should look an awesome sight ! 👍. Won’t be long now hopefully. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham

Lakeside is coming along nicely. This hobby is about creating your own world in miniature, and to do that it has to be done your way. I've taken a lot out of your last few videos as I've been trying to master a lift out section since September time & haven't been able to successfully. From the ideas & info seen on Lakeside I now have a better plan & idea how to install my section. Don't let the negatives bring you down, as the positives far outweigh them. There are a number of channels on KZbin I have learnt a lot from since being back in the Hobby & yours is one of them. There is no right or wrong way in my eyes, there is only a it works or it doesn't work way & yours works :). Keep up the good work, enjoying watching Lakeside being reborn.

Roberto Riccioni Thank you very much for the kind comment Roberto - it’s greatly appreciated and I couldn’t agree more with you. I have never said that what I do is the only correct way to do things and I often mention this, you are so right, there are many ways to do the same job and get the same result at the end - what I do is just my interpretation and once again you are right - if it works and I’m happy with it then what’s the problem? I research many things before committing, taking parts of ideas from others and some of my own, there is no right or wrong way as long at the end of the day it works! 👍. Cheers for now. ..........Graham

Amazing how quickly you have got to where you are now! As previously mentioned I had to use adjustable feet, similar to yours, due to a sloping garage floor and they have been fine for 10 years+ now. Personally I think they are a godsend to get truly level boards. I cannot understand "armchair critics" who live on You Tube it's your railway, it works and I'm pleased you ignore their spurious criticisms! Good luck with the next track laying work. I wish the Woodland Scenics underlay had been around when I built my layout it looks great! Have a great Sunday :-)

Pat McDermott Thank you very much Pat, the track underlay is fantastic to use, I wish I had used this on my previous layout, to go round the curves you just cut through a pre-scribed cut line in the centre, it then becomes a breeze to lay around a curve without puckering. Pleased you are happy with your adjustable feet too - I know I am! 👍. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham

Layton Junction Absolutely mate, we are individuals with individual ideas and thoughts which I think is only for the good. I have never at any point said this is how you should do it - just how I have done it but sometimes some people just don’t get this - not even when I prove time after time that what I have done works. It’s up to folk to make up their own minds as to use these methods or not, what I don’t like is people saying that I’m wrong when clearly I am not. Anyway, glad you like the lift up section and pleased that you will be fitting the adjustable feet too - you won’t be disappointed! 👍. Cheers for now mate. .............Graham

Oliver Chapman Thanks Oliver, it proved very useful yesterday when I had to move the large village section from on top of the base boards over into the corner, taking it through that gap made the job a lot easier than trying to lift it over. Cheers for now. ..........Graham

Hi Graham great to see your layout progressing. Some of us don't really give a stuff if the theory is incorrect as you always provide real practical solutions for the rest of us modelers. Love your ideas and find them very useful. As for the doubters. Well don't let the B******* grind you down. Keep the faith man 👏👏

Hi Graham, I am new to all the Dcc model railway layout. Your old layout was a very realistic and very detailed one, I’m inspired by your full ability to think it through carefully. My respect goes out to you and the way you approach what you do with the layout. There are many great model railway layouts out there and yours is one of them. You do what you do best your way. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for some helpful tips which make my up and coming layout of Hotpots industrial run smooth. You carry on mate I’m always interested in what you do with the layout. Regards. Dave Hotpot. 👍

Great video as always Graham. Maybe the reason for the massive of comment is due to the fact lift up or down sections are a very emotive subject. I would never have done it your way, but you are so right...it works perfectly. So I have a new prospective if I ever need to build one again. I echo your sentiments in the video...'nuff said!!!!. Cheers, Bob

Keep it up Graham. Really great. Remember when people become jealous they often have to criticise rather than praise. Basic law of of geometry, if the pivot point is higher than what you want to pivot, which it is, it will clear no problem and of course it does. Love the updates, keep them coming. Nick

Hello Graham, I have just watched your latest update and I must say that I am beginning to like the looks of the new Lakeside, I liked your previous layout but there is just something about this one that has really peaked my interest, I think your lift up section works very well so much that I am going to copy your idea for my new layout that's if you don't mind, I had a lift up section on my last layout but I was never happy with it but watching how you did your's has inspired me to have another go for my new layout, for those who feel inclined to down everything that you do then let them do just that it is after all your layout and I totally agree with your comments about doing things your way instead of listening to the naysayers, good luck with the rest of it mate and I will be watching as always...John

John Morrow Hi John and I feel the same way with this layout as you do, I think because I learnt so much from the previous layout that I can now put into practice all the things I wish I had done before. You copy away my friend, nothing on my layout has a copyright on it and I put these videos up just for that reason - if folk feel that they can use something I have done then that’s excellent news. Good to know that you will have a similar lift up section, hopefully it will help you have better access too. Cheers for now mate. ........Graham
