In this video I'll show you how I like to setup my 2 stroke carburetors. This is important stuff, if you screw this up you will do damage to your machine. If in doubt bring it to a shop they should be able to do it for you in a few minutes. The saw in this video is a Husqvarna 272XP but you can pretty much follow these steps on any brand, stihl, jonsered, echo, shindaiwa, poulan, troy bilt, poulan, homelite, etc.
This video used to be annotated with simple step by step instructions but youtube killed annotations, so thank you youtube.
Part 1: The buy ----- • Part 1/6 Husqvarna 272...
Part 2: Dissasembly ----- • Part 2/6 Husqvarna 272...
Part 3: More Dissasembly ----- • Part 3/6 Husqvarna 272...
Part 4: Reassembly ----- • Part 4/6 Husqvarna 272...
Part 5: First Start ----- • Part 5/6 Husqvarna 272...
Part 6: Running and Carburetor adjustments ----- • Part 6/6 Husqvarna 272...

My 1989 262xp carb was set at shop when I bought it. Never touched low or high settings in 27 years. This summer I mistakenly filled fuel tank with fuel that was either too old or vapour barrier ethanol/lost octane. Saw sputtered and heated up, I quickly fiddled with carb settings before shutting off. New mix using chevron 94 no ethanol, saw running but needs carb settings adjusted properly, which I can now do thanks to this excellent video .

Thanks for posting. My neighbor offered me a johnsored 2149 turbo if i would cut up his firewood for him last year. After I did the job with my Husqvarna, I realized the johnsored didn't even run. I just cleaned out the carb and tuned it per your instructions and now he's looking over the fence wishing he had his saw back lol.

Thanks for a great video. You saved me a butt load of cash. I was on the way to buying a stihl weedwacker when I thought to look on youtube for a solution. I have a craftsman weedwacker and your video fit the need nicely. Thanks again.

Excellent advice, thanks for posting! My chainsaw was driving me nuts. Tough to get started, but when it did get running it would cut out as soon as I pulled the trigger. :-( Tweaked the carb just as you said, it fired up first time and sounds like a V8 now. Just ripped a tree into logs in no time! :-)

You need to buy a Top Cover for that machine, because it directs the cooling air from the fan. They are available on ebay for a few pounds / dollars, and fit 61, 266, and 272.

Glad you remembered to run it overly rich for the first couple tanks and just let it run at idle till its burned thru the 1st gas tank. After rebuilding a saw expect it to smoke for the 1st minute or so because there the one who worked on it should have put extra 2stroke oil in the crankcase and all over the top end to prevent scratching the cylinder walls when fitting it over the piston. Altitude and temperature can cause your saw to be out of tune too.

Does this also apply to a 266se from 83? it wuldnt start anymore and im working on it because i bragged about my mx past but im running into all kinds of problems that never really occured on the motocross engines, among them these settings. it occasionally stalls coming down from high rpm it also idles at different rpm after every touch of trottle It will stall when i hang it with the blade pointing down, it runs faster when the righthand side is facing down, and running slower when lefthand side is facing the ground unless you rev it .. .. i already took apart the carb and replaced as much as possible and cleaned the rest. the plug is ok although it was really black, as was everything inside the cylinder, it had been running with really bad combustion . seemingly it had been running fine and then on one day it started to smoke and eventually never started again.piston and cylinderwall is ok, compression is ok, fuelline and filter, ignitioncoils are ok. the airvalve for the tank is fine, although some noob wrecked the slit with his screwdriver the thing had some poor maintanance, sawdust clogged part 501222401!!. luckily it isnt sand, and the clutch was installed incorrectly and some other really stupid mistakes maybe you know a good replacement carb? maybe i should start thinking about octane, 98 is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain and modern fuels eat away on older machines. you can get all kinds of funny results because of it.. the original carb is discontinued . the machine is for occasional use And i intend to get this thing running fine so i can keep my big mouth, it already runs but irregular. kinda like my pans when im cooking with the lid on em, but i dont know how a chainsaw is suppose to run on idle. i have the blade off and when its on my lap it sometimes bounces under different rpm, i know low range rpm should be 2500 and max rpm 11500, i dont have a tacho, but i take it should run like a 125cc dirtbike LOL i see someone made a comment ""new and IMPROVED ''adjustment screws HAHAHAHA. if you are like that guy i maybe ask someone else. ''that saw exceeds 25 years .''. yea right LOL WOW u get some really stupid dorks on your videos hahahaha wannabe's with powertools its exactly why i always dig into stuff like this i want an answer for a guy in the know imma check ur channel and a basic question: the L(min low rpm) H (max high rpm) are turned to set maximum and minimum rpm so why exactly does it have some sort of 3rd idle screw that pushes against the trottle lever? is that for weatherconditions or something? And does it inviolve re-adjusting the L and H rpm setting? i couldnt find it in the manual, its kinda confusing

First good knowledge thanks But u r hiding holes when u do setting Then there is third hole on top of two how to set that one Ur start ones but other have problems they start again stop Or the start but very hard Or they start accelerator them when u leave it it stop ??
@machinesnmetal
@machinesnmetal 3 жыл бұрын
The third hole allows.adjustment for the idle speed. It just turns a screw that presses on the throttle rod as if you squeezed the trigger slightly.

On my stihl trimmer I turned the hi speed screw in until the engine lost rpm and then backed it out until it ran the highest rpm and then I backed it out about 1/2 turn more. Is that ok? It took like 3 turns to get it to run lean and then I backed it out probably 1 full turn. They had it set so rich from the factory that I could burn through an entire tank of fuel in about 30 minutes.
@grasscutter88
@grasscutter88 8 жыл бұрын
Now the trimmer has great throttle response from both idle and full speed and lots of power. Before the trimmer would lose power after about 20 minutes of running.

I just purchased a Husqvarna 395xp. The shop I purchased from stated that they didn't do any adjustments on it because it's done at the factory. It starts and runs fine (to me) but should I make adjustments?
@machinesnmetal
@machinesnmetal 7 жыл бұрын
probably not, just break it in slowly. if it's fuel injected it should take care of its own adjustments, if you take it to a different elevation you probably should make adjustments if its not efi. nice saw by the way!!!
