Great video!!! I had a McCulloch chain saw for years and it just stopped running, tried everything I could think of to no avail. I bought a new saw about 5 yrs ago and now that one wasn't running very good. I used your video to tune it up and it's running awesome!! I went back to my old saw and tuned it up and it's running like new !!!! I also have a gas hedge trimmer that wouldn't run and now it's running like new !!!! This video literally just saved me about $1000 !!! Well done!!

Hands down the best video for getting a chainsaw back to spec for fuel adjustment. My Husq 460 Rancher was in need of serious maintenance. Changed out the air filter, spark plug, new chain, set the bar and chain tension and other lube requirements. THEN I came across this video. I had the right tools already but just couldn't get it to run good. I followed these guidelines in front of my PC, then set the saw down. Took it out in the morning and it started right up! Did the fine tuning instructions and now it is as good as when it was brand new! Thanks Piddler!

You got right to the point, and clearly described the process. Thanks for taking the time to make a well-thought out, intelligent, no BS video. Cheers!

My new saw will not stay on. It starts but the second I hit the trigger it dies. Because I got it on amazon from a third party seller its a nightmare to return and get a replacement. I am looking at it as a blessing in disguise. the tools are on the way and thanks to you and this video I will know how to tune my saw. mi have watched a dozen of these videos and yours is hands down the clearest to follow for a new saw owner. even though an old video on chainsaw tuning, i was fortunate to run into this video just the right timing. i checked all over UT and this was the most easiest one to follow. i did exactly as he said and wrote the steps to follow. next morning i put the chainsaw blade area on the vise as shown in video and wood blocks to keep it proper heigh level. i got the common tools to fit into the holes. did as he said. took me couple pull and it started. while running, i adjusted the low/high and idle as he prescribed. now this chainsaw will be very useful to cutdown firewood for my grill. thanks for the belated video.Bob

I bought my first saw, a Husqvarna 350 from Lowes 25 years ago+/-. 15 years ago It wouldn't run, so I took it to the local Husqvarna dealer. He said you bought it at Lowe's, take it to Lowe's, A$$-hoe! So I took it to a shop that kept it for two weeks and charged me $50 to adjust it. I finally bought the tools as my old 350 isn't idling coming off the throttle (stalls when you let off after a cut.) I've also got a 2101XP that hasn't run for years, @ 110cc I'm gonna ride it around the yard. I can hardly wait for the arrival of the tools! Anyway this was the most informative video I've seen, thank you!!

You may not see this comment since this is a year old, but I subscribed cause I am also a professional PIDDLER! Sad to say, we are a rare breed in today's world. Stumbled onto this video and when I saw you were adjusting a husky, I had to watch. I was given a blown up husky 350, and I bought a Meteor head and piston rebuild kit, and re built it. Bought a modded muffler with a small straight pipe and slightly polished the ports on the head while building. But, I've rarely ran the saw cause it just wasn't adjusted right. Your video was a TON easier to follow than the pro guys. Thanks for helping a Alabama PIDDLER out! I plan to keep watching more of your stuff and getting ideas. Keep on piddling bro.

This is a good primer for adjusting the fuel/air mixture and idle speed on an otherwise healthy 2-stroke engine. If you don't get the response described, there could be other issues that need to be addressed; fuel/oil mixture, spark plug/ignition system, dirty carb/ air filter, or damaged cylinder, piston and/or rings.

Thank you for the GREAT video and educating me!!! Being an older guy who loves camping I found it easier, less stress and with less energy to use a bow saw rather than to start my chain saw... My question is, How does the saw lose it's factory settings? Also, what's the "rule of thumb" for mixing oil to fuel?
@AmericanPiddler5 жыл бұрын
Um... there's a lot here so as the saw ages/breaks in and is in different environments weather etc. The setting could & probably should be fiddled with a little... as far as oil mixtures go for the cheaper Chinese saws I run 25:1 I also recommend a higher dollar oil not some cheap crap... on every other saw a 40:1 or 50:1 depending on the saw works well... we run red armor oil it's an echo brand and is great! Oil and maintenance is a whole lot cheaper than replacing parts or an entire saw! Thanks for watching and Keep on Piddling #americanpiddler

Thanks dude. Subscribed. I played with my weed whacker because it lost power so i just blindly started messing with the carb adjustments until it sounded normal. I just wanted to make sure I was doing it right. Until it sounded right. My idle and low was always clanky sounding until I pushed the gas because I figured out of box that's normal. Nope it sounds and runs better since I adjusted it. It was bogging down after awhile under load for some reason recently to the point it would just shut off. I thought damn I just paid about 300 bucks for this for 1 year of use......Carb just needed adjustment I guess runs fine now. Also adjusted an old Stihl 025 since this thing is ripping threw wood. I've been using it more than my brand new husky xp 550. Which I need to actually use a little more to justify it's just I've been cutting all the smaller lighter wood

Will this work on other brands of saws (i.e. Craftsman, Stihl, McCullough, etc.) or is this specifically for a 455 Rancher?

That saw likely has a limited coil. Thus it should be tuned in the wood. Hitting the limiter sounds like 4 cycling. Older saws with unlimited coil you can set by ear, limited coil under load in the wood.

Thanks a lot for the tuning instruction. My Husqvarna doesn't want to start warm soon after the factory. At present, it has a rich fuel mixture, gives gaps during gassing, loss of power, and smoke exhaust.

A coat hanger and a falling ax or regular Ax. Put the coat hanger on the stump chop about 4"peace out of the coat hanger with the axe on a rock or piece of metal wedge flatten one end of the coat hanger like a screwdriver and on the other end put the little Bend in it about a half inch from the end so you know witch way the flat part of the tool is. Much better than the ones you buy you should get all the tools you need when you buy the saw. To remove the guards that they have in their just heat that tool up so its hot with a lighter torch stick it in there to let it melt onto the tool. It's hard to blow these little rinky-dink saws up. Just make it so it runs good. When you saw starts to run out of gas or fuel turn it off don't try to keep it running that's when the most damage will happen. Keeping your saw sharp is and most important thing once you run a dull chain you can never sharpen it again properly if you keep it sharp from the beginning that it will stay sharp through his whole entire life but if you run it doll it will never ever cut right again it doesn't make any difference who sharpens it. Last tip of the day your change speed if you chain going really fast and you touch one Little rock or anything your whole entire chain will be wiped out. Slow your chain speed down learn to jog your chain 10x the life

Great information. I am restoring an 15 year old homelite that hasn't run in few years. Noticed it won't start in winter cold time. Adjusting the carb makes big difference. Noticed when I pull the trigger it hesitates and wants to die. Didn't know the "L" is for response .
@AmericanPiddler5 жыл бұрын
Happy to have helped! Yep the "L" controls the low end and the H set the high end and the other sets the idle! Sure appreciate you stopping by, hope ya subscribed. Thanks for watching and Keep on Piddling #americanpiddler
