PART 6: Minsk-Moscow
Despite being a daylight service, all passenger were offered bedding just in case you wanted to sleep through the scenery. My Minsk train had started in Brest, in southwest Belarus. One berth was already occupied, and the air smelled of stale drink. The man opposite me would wake every hour and pour himself a small vodka and then return to sleep again. Our train crossed the invisible border between Belarus and Russia. I have included the Moscow Metro as part of my train tally, as the distance from Belorussky station to Paveletsky station was 6.5km and too far to walk with a backpack.
