He's 100% right. Precision and accuracy are what's important. The speed comes when you are precise.

I fucking love Ray. Just watched this video again today three years later. My shuffle is tight as fuck because of this tutorial. It would be safe to say that Ray luzier is one of the most influential hard rock/ metal drummers of his generation... Hats off to ray

This guy deserves so much more recognition than he gets. I love Korn but that band really doesn't showcase the mountain of talent they've acquired in a drummer. Best decision they ever made. Not hating on Dave but he is no where near the caliber of Luzier.

IMO, One of the best pieces of advice (all of it was great, who am I to judge 🤣) was the play with as many difference musicians as you can from differing styles! If you just stick to one style, there is SOOO much drumming technique your missing out on and will greatly improve your “first preference” style. Great vid 🤘

You are truly a master of our craft! Your speaking I’m listening! If you ever have time to do a clinic anywhere in Alabama, ga, tn, or ms I’m there!

You can tell a bass drum tone sings when beater comes off head but on slower grooves and smash & hold on heads...more thud than tone. Great playing and instruction by the way.

Get a metronome like he said. For any instrument but especially drums. I myself didn't metronome up in the late 90s when I got an instrument and had to learn how to feel the timing which isn't easy.

When you see the drummer playing fast notes ... And then asking him like "Could you play the slow ones?",- mostly it's like the disaster for them, because fast is fast, but you have to play it slow too.

Most don’t know anything other than sixteenth notes which just becomes boring. Paradiddles between the hands and feet can be fun but I played in punk bands and no punk drummer with any self respect would use a double pedal. Also a lot of shuffles can be in 12/8 so if you have only ever played 4/4 you are going to struggle. Think more widely about time signatures.
