Man, Ray just blows my mind every time I see him play. He’s seriously one of the best, clean, and smooth drummers in modern metal. I love me my blast beats and weird stuff, but there’s something so captivating about how he just taps into the fundamentals of drumming, while still managing to throw in flare that’s natural and creative. Ray also just always seems to love what he’s doing, and that smile on his face you see every now and then always feels so genuine: it’s what music is about, man.

The thing I find so great about Rays playing is that no matter what time signature he's laying down(and there are a bunch of them during this song)his fills are always so clean(regardless of complexity) & you can make out everything he's doing.A lot of drummers have great fills, but you can't make out what they're doing during them & when they go back into the verse/chorus,it can sound sloppy sometimes.Ray always makes it a note to point out that cleanliness is one of the most important things to practice & speed & endurance will follow,in his lesson/teaching videos.I think he's got the clean technique and odd time signatures to beat Neil Peart, but his style & fills are better. With Neil, you can anticipate exactly what fill hes gonna play next, but with Ray You don't know what he's gonna do next & that's what makes him such a great drummer.

I recently watched a video here on YT with Ray & few others including Danny Carey & Justin Chandler of Tool. It's the 1st time I've heard him speak came across great he was stating how he went to the college that's a massive music college in the US & how he learnt a lot. It was like he really wanted to be a master of his craft. Which he certainly is & very humble with it. Just seemed like a decent very talented person. Exactly how I'd describe Danny longlegs Carey. Both of those 2 drummers take it to another level. There's not many that do for me. Then again there's a lot of drummers out there I've not heard.
