Part 9: How we apply Gtechniq EXOv4 for even MORE performance and protection!

Whenever a car comes to us for Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra, we also add on an additional two layers of EXOv4 (some call this combo the "Crystal Serum Ultra Black" package, although we've been doing it as standard since before there was a special name..). Layering up of the coatings further enhances the performance and protection on offer. In this video, Kelly (and his glamorous assistant Ashley) show how it's done, with talk about the differences and similarities between EXO and other coatings.

Hey kelly thanks o the paint prep video in the series that was a shocker I’m lucky enough to to have already been using gtech panel wipe but I was just about to switch to IPA with a surfactant. That is very educational video for all us detailers I also like IGL prep the d-lemonene based but I feel more comfortable with gtech

Hi, which Gtechniq product would you use on a matte paint car? I have seen both C1 and EXO4 used on their own and also together. I've also heard that regular use of C2V3 is effective if used regularly.

Silly question: do you wash those yellow microfiber towels (the large ones not the small cut-outs) after that, or are they used only once? If so, what are the best settings to wash them? Thanks!

when you guys apply Exo over CSL how long do you let CSL cure first? (Ive heard from immediately, to 6 hours later and all in between.)

We use CSU only, but regardless we prefer to allow it to cure before applying EXO over the top because it's a much bigger problem if you layer too soon. In our schedule we usually apply CSU at the end of an afternoon, then EXO the next morning followed by another layer of EXO at the end of the day. With my own eyes I have seen performance failure caused by EXO being applied very soon (within an hour) after CSU; conversely, I haven't seen problems caused by delayed layer application.

I think it was too soon and like you said I will wait longer.. thanks! Also .. I am quoting my customers about five years of durability and have only been using one layer of EXO. (after CSL). Do you really think there is much performance gain with two layers like everyone says?

Is there a difference in application and polishing between EXO V3 and EXO V4? I mean the time we have after the application

No not really. We like to leave 8 hours minimum between the first and second coats, then allow at least 24 hours before the car is let out the door.

CSU + EXO + EXO is what we do. CSU + CSU.... overkill? No guarantee it will perform significantly better/differently. EXO adds an extra dimension.

The ultra is very easy to form water spotting and I really don’t like it. Apart from that great coating. But I won’t use it on my car given that water spotting affects hydrophobic performance within 1 year. Rather go CSL for that reason

Csu is a very overrated coating & absolutely no way that sees anywhere near 9 years . There’s far better options on the market that overhyped product . As for Exo v4 that was probably gtechniq worst coatings they have made with absolutely awful durability . V3 was better & that’s something.
