I think that argument falls apart when you consider that the top players all get it easily. If it was actually all RNG they’d fail too. Don’t get me wrong, I agree that the format has high variance, but there’s still enough reward for skillful play to reward strong players.

Combining that with people who already can vote due to tourney and people who is close to meeting the reqs, there's about 30-40 voters deciding on whether Machamp is banned or not. That's why many people hate how elitist Smogon is. 30 people deciding the whole metagame played by thousands and thousands of people. You don't have to be the 0.1% to have enough knowledge of the metagame to vote.

@ I disagree. The reqs are strict for good reason. Being a great player implies knowing a lot about teambuilding, win cons, matchups, etc. I’m not anywhere near the skill level required for reqs myself but the reality is that people who are really good at something are better at judging a decision. It works this way with anything. You don’t let a sophomore computer science student become a consultant for a big tech company. You hire the people with experience instead.

I never said that everyone should be able to vote, especially low ladder who doesn't really know enough about the meta game, but 1% is way more reasonable. Or 10%. And even then mid ladder players still have no say. As a long time player, Ive been always thought the criticism of Smogon's gatekeeping and elitism is valid, even though a lot of people saying it are just casual.

The whole gen 4 arc was great. It was a beautiful story about a young man with a heart full of dreams who goes on an adventure and tries to make the world a better place. On his journey he realises how dark and evil the world truly is and slowly starts to adapt to the evils around him in order to survive. At the end he realises that becoming evil in order to stop other evil things is ultimately not worth it so he just gives up and goes back to his home. Truly one of the most beautiful storys ever told.

As an old gen 4 player, there was a point when latias was banned just before Gen 5 dropped, and the meta game really felt resolved. Of course Jirachi Iron Head was still an issue, Machamp hadnt risen to promenance, Colbur berry wasnt super common, but if Jirachi and Machamp are dealt with, I think the metagame will be more fun
