My favorite part of this Machamp suspect test is that we do not see Machamp being run at all. People are already celebrating what the metagame will be like once Machamp is gone. And what a picture it paints: Hell itself, made manifest through the evils of Jirachi and his heinous partner-in-crime Clefable. But I fear not, for I feel reassured in the knowledge that they, too, will get theirs eventually. And then gen 4 will finally know peace.

The GXE requirement is actually crazy. I can scarcely imagine the kind of player who can reliably win games that often in a game with so much RNG. Even Jim's winrate by the end of this video is nuts. This series has really brought home to me what a massive power spike Gen 4 was. I got into competitive with DPP, but I love ADV now, and I can see why. All the attackers have 120 BP STAB moves with minimal drawbacks, all the walls have reliable healing moves. Everything is just "more". Rapid Spin is more important than ever, but simultaneously less viable than ever. It feels strange, looking at what was once my home as an alien landscape, and realising that it was always like this.

I also started playing showdown back in the day with HGSS OU, and I agree with everything you've said. But it feels like the meta has changed a lot. Blissey used to be as common in gen 4 as it is in ADV, boost passing was allowed, etc. It was like ADV but with more dudes to choose from. The full implications of the format hadn't been explored yet

I grew up with DPP and pre-showdown finding WiFi battles on the Marriland forum, felt like it was a beautiful balanced metagame. At higher optimization levels on Showdown, I couldn’t agree more, Gen 3 is a much cleaner metagame. Sad for me to admit, happy to know there’s others thinking the same thing :)
