The third of several episodes working the yard and switching industries on my model railroad. This is a good one! Well, I like it at least. One more episode to go!
My model railroad is a 10' x 13' HO scale shelf layout set on Long Island in the mid 1960s (give or take). Why I model the LIRR is a long story... It's pretty much done, but there's always room for improvement.

Since you had to drag the cylindrical hopper around, at least it's color coordinated with the locomotive. Haha!

Love the shelf layout idea! I would like to know what DCC sound module is in your Loco?

The RS-1 has a Soundtraxx Tsunami 2 decoder. For reasons that are lost to antiquity it is using a Baldwin VO sound profile.

Been wondering about that Hooker car too. Was it really full of refreshment for the crew as they did their work?😆

Well, you just gave me an idea about lighting for my layout. Where did you get the LED strips? I have a power supply that should work with them. Cheers from Wisconsin!

The strip came from a big roll (15') that I think I got from Amazon, or possibly eBay. Cost about $10-12. You can cut them apart in groups of 3 and I use those inside my structures when appropriate. They take 12V normally but for my test I used the 15V supply. I also tried a 9V but it caused the lights to flicker. They are pretty blue, but I think that's okay for my layout. I plan to eventually put up a lightweight valence and will use these for sure.

@@longislandrailroadmontaukb982 Thanks so much for your reply. I'll do some searching and order some. I originally thought of using some sort of LED lamp fixture, but the strip approach you use is more flexible (literally and figuratively) and costs less. Thanks again!

I love your attention to detail on your buildings. It makes switching seem real. I hate to sound dumb , I'll let you decide, since I grew up in Queens. When are you modeling? Better , where is the Montauk branch ,between where and where ?

I'm modeling the mid-to-late 60s. I like the power available then and I have access to track diagrams from that era. The Montauk Branch runs from Long Island City all the way to Montauk, but I am only modeling the first few miles in the Blissfield/Maspeth/Bushwick area. I go into this in some detail in my very first video. Although now I am redesigning things a bit, but it will still be the Montauk Branch.

@@longislandrailroadmontaukb982 Thanks, I thought it was Long Island City. I didn't know the "towns" . You have so much wedged into your layout, and your track layout works for your switching perfectly. Looking forward to new buildings ( industries) .
