You did a good job on your layout. I'm from long island my self long beach where I wanna do a train tressle bridge from island Park to long beach as the 70's they had Jim's JUNK YARD by the tracks which I have most to do it..., Joe again great L. Thanks for this layout update. I can see that things are really moving along. Nice to see your critter again. A critter double header to get up that incline would be very cool, but I'm guessing that another loco body would be expensive compared to a slug. Cheers from Wisconsin!
@longislandrailroadmontaukb982 Жыл бұрын
IIRC that body was $24, so not too bad. I did have to do a lot of work to it, though. I'd like to do something different just to spice things up a bit.

The narrow gauge line will be something when finished.

I hope so! It's been kind of a pain so far.

Hello, great update! All of the things you touched on were very cool. That barge looks really nice, and so does the copper blocks, I'll have to check that guys site out. The conductive tape was a great idea, I've got all kinds of ideas running through my head now. HOn30 is a cool scale. I scratchbuilt some locos and rolling stock 20 or years ago and they were so cool. I love your little loco for the narrow gauge. Thank you for sharing all of your hard work with us modelers, have a great day and take care. Dave B.

Curious, what are dimensions of layout, depth of shelves, peninsula, isles?
@longislandrailroadmontaukb982 Жыл бұрын
The room is 10x13. The shelves around the circumference are all 18", except the water that I added is an extra 6". The peninsula is 24" wide and sticks out 106" from the wall.
@KenN.OXN.805 Жыл бұрын
@@longislandrailroadmontaukb982 so, isles about 2.5 feet I’d guess.

I love the barge. I'm building a bunch of barges for my layout. Some are kits and some are scratch built. I just got the new kit from Jason Jenson Trains, it looks a lot like the Sylvan coal barge kit.
@longislandrailroadmontaukb9823 ай бұрын
I saw Jason's episode where he built his barge. I love Jason but in honesty I think styrene works better for modeling a barge. Maybe it's just because I have little experience with wood structures.
@paullindell3 ай бұрын
@@longislandrailroadmontaukb982 I like styrene myself, but I'm at a point now where I'll use what's available. I used the dimensions of the Sylvan coal barge to scratch build a flat top barge. I made the frame from balsa wood and skined it with styrene from signs I got at Walmart.

Wagos : ) The best thing to use when wiring a layout , great stuff

Very good update…enjoyed the overview off your layout…never thought of using copper tape…what concrete color paint did you use on the styrofoam? Looks great
@longislandrailroadmontaukb982 Жыл бұрын
The base coat is "French Linen" a chalk paint by FolkArt. I picked it since it was the best color from a limited selection at my local Hobby Lobby. Then over that is a wash of your favorite light-to-mid gray paint. I use slate grey mostly. Just slop it on to get nice variations in color. Then chalks or powders for weathering.

It is fun to operate! But I'm always changing things to keep it fresh. I thinks that's important for all model railroads.

@@longislandrailroadmontaukb982 I've moved a lot so none of my buildings are glued down, I only have 1 industrial siding for my 12' x 2' layout. I can't stop building so I have an icing facility, ACME Industries, a transfer facility and cattle pens in the future! Oh, and I have a 2 track car ferry with tug on a clamp on platform! I even have 5 steam engines to go back to the 20s-30s !

Thanks! Barges make a nice compromise between pretending and a large ship model. Luckily barges were in heavy use when and where I model.
@sernajrlouis Жыл бұрын
@@longislandrailroadmontaukb982 yes they do. I have a barge and a mid size ship on my layout. I couldn't do a larger ship because my walkway is the ship channel on my layout.
