There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.
New episodes twice a week on iHeartRadio.

A note on terminology: Adolf Hitler's father was not his uncle, he was his greatuncle; his mother was his first cousin.
@williampounds5191

You're getting mixed up in the terminology yourself. But it does get confusing because it's largely based how many generations separated people are from each other and it's all fucked up! A man having a child with his niece would make that child's father their *grand* uncle and their mother their first cousin *once removed.* Not first cousin. However! That child *would* be their *mother's* first cousin. Because they would be their mother's uncle's child. Your uncle/aunt's children are your first cousins. Once you get into weird inter-generational incest shit the relationships don't transpose cleanly. So while Hitler was his MOM's first cousin she was his first cousin once removed. Or just look at this chart: fh.familysearch.org/system/files/team/ait/images/blog/cousin-chart.jpg

Possible subject of the less-popular novelty song, "I am My Own First Cousin Once Removed".

Hitler's mother called her husband "uncle", but that was because he was some twenty-three years her senior.

I didnt know there were people out there as obsessed with AH as I am; Im glad Im not the only one. I never heard the term "Hitler nerd" until I watched this video, though Ive been one for practically my whole life. That story about the goat biting his p*n*s off is new to me, but it seems improbable (a lot less probable than the one-b*ll theory.) Speaking of which, the melody used in the song, "Hitler has only got one,etc" is a British military march called "Colonel Bogey." That march was also used (minus the words) in the movie "Bridge on the River Kwai", a World War II film set in a Japanese POW camp in southeast Asia, starring Alec Guiness as Major Nicholson and Sessue Hayakawa as the Japanese commandant. That movie was made in the 1960s and the tune (again, without any lyrics) was quite popular at the time. I remember hearing it on the radio a lot as a kid.

There's a documentary on YT here somewhere... Hitler's background, the tiny town his father was from, was terribly, terribly, inbred. That's why Hitler had the town leveled and removed from all records, it's why Hitler's mother had something like 3-4 kids before Hitler (the others didn't survive infancy, a thing that happens with ... inbreeding) and the whole reason why H. was so secretive about his background. The yokels from his old town of origin were probably all "disappeared" and considering how inbred they were, no loss. I mean, this is inbreeding and child-marriage on a level that's only been seen since among Republicans in the South.

You're correct about rural Austria being extremely inbred at that time ( on a par with the American south.) But Klara Hitler's first three children ( Gustav, Ida and Otto) would probably all have died, even she and her husband hadn't been related. That was par for the course in those days. Two of them died of diphtheria ( there was no vaccine for it then), and the third was stillborn. Luckily, little Adolf survived. 😮😂

If you haven't seen the movie *Max* with John Cusack, you can't call yourself a Hitler nerd. It's a beautifully-done movie, obviously wasn't a hit in the US because of its subject, but very very good. It was shot in Eastern Europe because they had to get that far from the US to even pull it off.

It is good, but not remotely historically accurate in any way.

"Max" was pretty good, but I preferred "Hitler: The Rise of Evil." That was a two-part series made for Canadian TV in 2003. The Scottish actor, Robert Carlyle starred as AH. The series dealt with H'es early life, from his childhood up until he was appointed Chancellor of Germany in 1933. There were some historical inaccuracies and omissions, but it's well worth seeing. I've seen it five times already. Does that qualify me as a Hitler nerd?
