I remember hearing a quote from Kissinger that went "But for the circumstances of my birth I would have been a Nazi". I think about that a lot, and I think that should really disqualify you from, everything
@gustavchambert70729 ай бұрын
It's bad to preemptively put people in prison. But if someone were to argue that we probably should make an exception for people who say that specific things in the specific way and context that Kissinger did I really wouldn't be able to argue against them very effectively. It's like he's so evil that normal logic doesn't apply...

The follow up of "Any people who are persecuted for 2 thousand years must have done something wrong" always gets me and is aeguably worse A third of Germany voted for the Nazi party, it makes sense to assume you mightve been one as a nationalistic German in the time if they didnt literally hate you, but to follow it up with reasoning for hating Jews is fucking crazy man

A fun fact about Oswald Spengler is that halfway through World War I he also wrote a book called "Prussianism and Socialism" wherein he decides that the massive outpouring of militarism and patriotism when Germany started fighting in World War I was actually a new right-wing, German version of socialism that he called "Prussian socialism" in opposition to leftist socialism (which he called "English Socialism"). It was basically all your typical right-wing stuff like respect for tradition, militarism, nationalism, and a desire to protect existing society and its institutions. He also hated unions and was big into that "protestant work ethic" type of stuff. He was a big fan of the Kaiser, and thought Bismarck and Frederick the Great were the greatest examples of "Prussian socialists". So then when World War I ended and all these right-wing populist (and usually anti-Semitic) political parties started springing up, they tended to borrow from Spengler's "Prussian socialism" and took names and ideologies loosely based around it - so there was a German Social Party, a German Socialist Party, a German National People's Party (DNVP for short), and of course the National Socialist German Workers Party, better known as the Nazis. They were all decidedly right-wing nationalist, although most of them rejected traditional conservatism and weren't overly fond of the recently-abdicated Kaiser (the DNVP was the big exception - they f*ckin loved the Kaiser and wanted to bring him back). In the case of the Nazis, they started out in southern Germany (specifically Bavaria, the Texas of Germany) and in the mid-1920s sent some members into northern Germany - which leaned much more socialist at the time - to try to gain more followers. Among them were brothers named Otto and Gregor Strasser - and the Strassers wound up adopting more leftist rhetoric and even kinda started to sorta believe in left socialism (mostly in the context of "Jews are controlling German capitalism so German capitalism is corrupted and we need to destroy it!"). The Strassers became the leaders of their own small "leftist" wing of the Nazi Party commonly called the Strasserists. Hitler and the Nazi leadership mostly weren't members or sympathetic (Goebbels was at first but he switched to Hitler's side by the end of the 20s), and they fought with Hitler constantly until Hitler had them kicked out of the party and later had a lot of them executed (one of the Strassers fled to Canada and survived WW2). Usually when you find some quote online where it's Hitler saying how super socialist he is... it's almost always actually a quote from one of the Strassers (usually Gregor... Otto was more of a "let's go get in a fight" kind of guy). Anyway... if you've ever wondered by the Nazis had "socialist" in their official name despite being hardcore right-wing.... Spengler's a huge part of the reason why. As an epilogue, Spengler was never actually a Nazi himself, mostly because the Nazi racism and populism didn't sit well with him (he was anti-Semitic but not at the insane level of the Nazis). So when Hitler came to power in 1933-34, he gave Spengler a cushy university job so that he could go away and be quiet.

If you look at this situation in cold logic it's pretty terrifying. Henry was brilliant, evil as he was. When he looked at the Nazis he saw only one thing: Incompetence. Said Nazis were drinking the Kool-Aid so hard they were unable to see they were headed for history's banana peel. There was absolutely NO WAY they could win in the long term. This was going to end with a ruinous defeat and the siege of Berlin and various intelligencia in Germany knew this at least in secret. But again, Henry didn't look out and see 'evil'. He saw morons swinging and missing over and over. And he knew he could have done a better job had he been in the NSDAP but obviously he wasn't allowed in the clubhouse. To Henry the tenants of fascism worked as long as you adhered to cold, hard logic and not made up, goofy quasi religions based on racial identity. You bopped people or they bopped you. Choosing not to pick up the stick damns you to the whims of those that do. If the enemy has kids that will grow up to take arms against you eventually... You know what to do. But I gotta take off the devil's advocate horns here because I actually have a conscience and find Kissinger disgusting. His solution to everything was 'Just be worse because only monsters have a future'. What kind of a world does that make?!
