There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.
New episodes twice a week on iHeartRadio.

Uhhh that "when I hear of culture I reach for my revolver" by Stone is a famous Goebbels quote and I'm shocked you guys didn't call that out.

It's been mis-attributed to various Nazi officials, but actually comes from a Nazi playwright, Hanns Johst, in his 1933 play _Schlageter:_ "When I hear the word culture ..., I release the safety on my Browning!" Every Nazi leader would know the play. It was written to celebrate the 1933 Nazi electoral victory and then performed on Hitler's birthday. Johst was made head of the Writer's Union and the Poetry Academy.

What does this quote mean? The reason I ask is because it seems like the current GOP (MAGA, whatever) is overly obsessed with culture war, while focusing on tax and regulation cuts for the wealthy and limiting the rights of Americans.

@@function0077 That's the point, the bold double-faced hypocrisy. They are obsessed with culture wars, because they believe, (or are pretending to believe) in an invisible default of capital-W Whiteness, a "non-political/cultural" existence, a baseline that is simply what is "normal". Thus anything outside of that is the boogeyman of *"culture"* which in turn becomes a dog whistle for any marginalized group they hate, and the culture that group or those groups create.

Every time I've seen Roger Stone, that's been the impression I got, too. Like, I've seen two expressions in photos of him: a mischievous smile, and a weird pout trying to be tough. There's something inherently "naughty child" about him.

Had the same experience with my grandpa. A mountain of a man who seemed capable of anything, and ultimately lost a battle with Parkinsons. Fuck parkinsons.

One of the issues, unfortunately, of being a politician, is a lot of voters are snowflakes whose feelings are easily hurt by facts, and instead of being introspective and reasonable, they throw temper tantrums at the ballot box. Obama wasn't wrong when he said a lot of Americans cling to their Bibles and guns.
