Patong is our local giant bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper). However, there is another variety of giant bamboo which originated from the Americas, Guadua angustifolia. It is this variety of giant bamboo that is well known as cconstruction material in USA. Which type of giant bamboo are they talking about? Is this the local giant bamboo, patong (Dendrocalamus asper) or the Guadua angustifolia?
