I think the auto x-trails have a big advantage off road over the manuals. I've got a manual t30 and it is very difficult to crawl slowly. If only they had a transfer case...or an extra low low 1st gear for crawling it would make all the difference.

deca durabolin Lock mode on an X-Trail is basically 4H. Auto engages 4H when the front wheels slip (fwd vehicle). Lock goes back to auto once the speed reaches 40km/h, usually only need it when doing slower stuff anyway

Hi i am Ravi from India. thanks for driving home the point that sensible driving is more important than mods. I am from your school of thought. I have a 2010 Nissan X trail dci 2.0 t31 awd automatic and has been without any mods so far. Now i intend to give my car to my daughter and she just learned to drive. I have planned to raise by 50mm. youngsters are not patient enough. First of all can you please tell me if it is ok to raise by 50 mm without any extensions to the break hose and steering? I prefer raising with longer springs and shocks rather than spacers. Secondly we do not have Pedders or Lovells and Webco ready made kit in India. We have H&R springs from Germany and Bilstein shocks. we have to do the guess work. Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the great video which i showed to my daughter for preparing her mindset towards offroading.
@ruggedlife5 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. 50mm is the highest you can go and you won't need to worry about hoses etc. Raised springs are better than spacers especially if you are after stiffer springs to be able to carry heavier weight. H&R and Bilstein are both very good brands.

More good advice but I disagree with lowering tyre pressures to avoid sharp rocks . The weakest part of the tyre is the side wall so as the tyre deflates it exposes more of the side wall to potential damage so it's a 50 /50 type thing . On a dry hard track like that I would not lower my pressures unless traction starts to become a bigger issue , then I would only lower them slightly on such a hard surface . I drove around country roads and bush tracks for half my life while working on cattle stations and never lowered my tyre pressures ever but I do agree there are times it is necessary .

@ruggedlife4 жыл бұрын
No I never press the brake and accelerator at the same time and I don't recommend this to be done. It's either or but may take a bit of practice to master. From what I heard CVT transmissions are not as reliable compared to normal autos when it come to the rough stuff so just be mindful of this.

hi mate just wondering how your 35mm lift kit goes off road, have you had any scraping under the vehicle? would you recommend a 50mm lift ? or do you think its unnecessary
@ruggedlife5 жыл бұрын
Hey mate. 35mm suits me well but my larger tyres also gived me an extra 25mm. 50mm is obviously better for clearance but also increases the stress on cv joints. Some people who has it says they see increase in cv joint replacement some say they have no issues. 35mm was the tallest I can find with the load rating I wanted. 50mm is only a spacer so original springs are still used meaning the vehicle will still sag big time when I load my camping gear in it.

@ruggedlife5 жыл бұрын
For sure. I used to own a 'proper' 4wd years ago but for now this is what's practical for our family and this is what we have so Im making good use of it. We like going to 4wd only campsites. More peaceful, less people. Also, the X-trail never had issues tackling any of them so far 👍
@alexalx11173 жыл бұрын
@@ruggedlife Inspiring videos man thanks for all the info. I'm currently considering whether I should be getting a 'proper' 4WD or if an Xtrail T30 will do the job. I need it for commuting to work daily, but I need the same vehicle to be able to take me to all the 4WD only campsites, and hopefully to less crowded remote bushland and beaches of Australia. Also considering of chucking a rooftop tent, for quicker set-ups. I wonder if a stock Xtrail T30-T31, with All-Terrain Tires and perhaps a DIY lift with spacers, bash plates and an air-compressor with me, would be sufficient for being able to get to these remote places? I'm also trying to work out if adding bash-plate, all-terrains and a small lift would end up costing me the same money as for example getting a Pajero or old Challenger in the first place. What is your opinion on all this? I'm at the moment very money-saving focused, so what puts me off a 'proper' 4wd is first of all the initial price, it's high fuel-consumption and perhaps higher maintenance costs. Greetings, and keep up the great work mate.
