Look at the prices as a percentage of the average American salary. Converting them straight to rupees would make them seem very expensive. An average American salary after taxes per month would be $3k and the average middle class (yes, I said middle class that can afford to come to the US) Indian salary would be 30k rupees per month. So a conversion factor of 30k/3k = 10 should be more accurate. By that measure, a toothpaste worth $3 in the US feels like you're spending 30 rupees while making an average salary of 30k per month in India. If you look at it this way, most of the prices of consumer goods in America are actually way cheaper than in India.

50% of the US don't make $30k USD a year, so no its expensive for most people poor or on minimum wage. An hours worth of work can get you a tomato, a head of lettuce and a onion. The US most people who are not wealthy need multiple jobs to live.....

Price and selection depend upon the state and area that you are shopping in. The larger the city the more chance of having international groceries. If the community is not diverse then Walmart is all that you have. Thankfully, the area in which I live has had an influx of immigrants so I spend most of my time at the Indian, African, and Asian markets.

If we compare the price with India, the income in the US and India is totally different. We get paid hourly and it's weekly or Bi-Weekly but not in India. Else, ask the family to send all the things via Post except liquid stuff, very cheap instead! I am in Canada now I get most of the groceries from No Frills or Freshco. PS: I would suggest you, buy tomato pastes instead of tomato itself! extended expiry, lol.

The original comment was about taxes on groceries and I said that groceries are tax exempt in the U.S. The U.S imposes high taxes whether it be income tax, federal, property, sales tax, etc. The U.S only exempts basic groceries and food items from tax. It was u who said that the U.S. is mostly tax-free...and I didn't agree with that because we as consumers pay lots of taxes everytime 'except for groceries'. U messed up the whole idea..haha!

what was the point of the video? US dollar is strong and americans earn in dollars so the conversion in rupee means nothing to them so the expensive tag is gone. wallmart is not in India. We earn in rupee and rupee is weaker so we feel products in america are expensive because they're priced in dollars. what good did this american price to indian price conversion do?

i found that almost around double 0r 2 times value of money compared to INDIA in USA...dont compare in term of money try to compare in term of affortabality of consumer like if i have 90 ruppes then in INDIA i could buy 1kg oil.....but that approxe in usa you may...will pay 180 rupees for 1kg oil. PERCAPITA GDP in USA is around 60k USD.....and INDIA 7K USD ....big difference

How much do you earn in indian rupees? It is baseless comparison. The true comparison is $1=₹10. For example you showed bread as 1.53$ means 15₹ and we get wheat bread around 25₹. So basically its not at all costly

Walmart is one of the cheapest and reasonable stores. You wouldn't believe how inexpensive it is. I feel it's cheaper than Indian store also. ☺️

I think other than rent, other living expenses are more or less same. Given that your lifestyle is simple and don't like to pay extra for things. Btw, are vegetable expensive over there?
