I had a partial knee replacement three years ago and to look at my knee, you wouldn't think I had one at all. My scar is almost invisible and my knee looks normal. I'm going in for my other knee evaluation today. I'm going have surgery on my other knee this year. I think it was a great option!

I did a partial replacement 18 th June 2021. Its been five months and it wasn’t that easy. It took me up to four 1/2 months to walk without a crutch. Fisiotgerapy 3 x a week, helped me gain confidence. However, the most important factor was to loose weight, as I had put on a load with covid and not being able to walk for nearly two years. Life is coming back, however, there’s still a bit of pain , and it feels like you’ve got a golf ball stuck in your knee. Time…. My doctor in Paris, France was honest and said it takes up to 6 months and even a year to get back to normal.

I have had both procedures done, total done on left knee in 2008, and partial last week (10-14-21)on right knee. If your doctor confirms you are eligible for a partial, don’t think twice! Partial is so so so much easier recovery! I’m doing things in 1 day that I couldn’t do for weeks with the total knee replacement. Absolute no brainier!

Good, I go back for 2 week check up Thursday and I’ll see what the doctor says and reply back. I’m sure everyone is different depending on age, overall health, weight etc.

I am 2 weeks out now, and doing very well, riding bike around the neighborhood and doing PT and driving without any issues. If I had a desk job I could def. go back to work now. (Retired) I am 70 YO and fairly fit. If you had a physical labor job, probably another couple weeks I would think, depending on what you do? Hope this helps!

I had a partial knee replacement also three years ago and right now it's great but it took me a while to recover because physical therapy kept me in there for three months. When I told my doctor this and how my knee was still swollen, he told me to get off physical therapy right away because every time I go there causing it to swell up again. He was right as soon as I stopped, the swelling went down. The most you should be in physical therapy is six weeks. I am having another partial knee replacement this year on my other knee It works!

Having this done 8/23 to L&R knees at ROTHMAN/Thomas Jefferson.. The Dr Courtney explained it just as the video shows. It was a no brainer for me.

Dr., appreciate this succinct partial knee replacement video. Both my knees have OA and had torn meniscus repairs. Right knee in 1996, left knee 2013. My right leg is 1 inch shorter than the left as a result of a fractured femur at age of 15 (70 now). Since 2014, i have had Syndisc and Euflexxa injections in both knees at least 4x. About 1 week ago, i bent down , sat on my knees to avoid bending at the waist ( I have variuos spinal issues including stenosis and facet joint arthritis throughout the spine including scoliosis and chronic pain and stiffness everywhere). Upon getting up, I felt OK, however, a little later I began to feel left knee pain. Xrays taken Monday 2/21/22, revealed that a portion of the left knee is bone on bone or very close to it, and probably have a new tear in the meniscus. The xrays of the right knee shows more bone on bone area than the left! But less pain ?? Also, left hip arthritis to boot. The leg length discrepancy for over 55 years and only until 2011, was left pretty much unaddressed with corrective shoes. Now getting a new round of Euflexxa to see how both knees react. IYO, if it determined that I need partial knee replacements, which knee should be 1st? Is there Meniscus replacement surgery for the left knee?

Thank your for a very informative video - Question - when is it really necesary to do a partial - I have some pain, my knee has water in it - have it taken out the last 6 months and hyalron injections over 2 years but I can still walk 5 km and can still do fitness. My phyio therapist says I don`t need an OP - my orthopedic says it won`t get any better so he recommends I do it - My date is 24 of FEB 2022. I don`t know if thi OP is necessary or are there ways to get the knee back to normal with PT? I have grad 4 bone on bone. I am not overweight and have done sports most of my life.

If I provide you a xray of my knee can you tell from that what the best option would be for myself? I'm toldni need a full replacement, all the damage is on the inside of the knee, based on what you have said in this video I would be more inclined to consider. I'm early 50s and very active, knee is seizing but to no cartilage, no acl either now. Basically bone on bone on inside left of knee. Can you off any advice as I really don't want a full replacement and the huge impact that will have on my life

Can this partial knee replacement be done on people that have no more cartilage on both knees and are bone to bone? And how much is the procedure?

Hey Joe. I have no cartilage on either of my knees. I've had a partial knee done on one of my knees and am going to have the other done this year. I would recommend it the surgery as an alternative to total knee. Cost? depends on surgeon and insurance

Depending on your job lifestyle, it can last 15-20 years easily!!After that they can clean the Bone and Fixate the Implant!!!!
