In this video, we explore the newly opened Govan-Partick Bridge in Glasgow, a £29.5 million project funded by the Scottish and UK governments. This stunning bridge reconnects Govan and Partick across the River Clyde, reviving a historic ferry route that ceased in the 1960s. At 110 metres long and one of the longest opening pedestrian and cycle bridges in Europe, it swings open to allow ships like the PS Waverley to pass.
The bridge not only provides a key travel route for pedestrians, cyclists, and wheelchair users but also links major attractions like the Riverside Museum. It’s a crucial part of Glasgow’s active travel route, connecting the University of Glasgow to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Celebrations marked the bridge’s opening on 6 September 2024, with community festivals on both sides of the river. This project is part of a broader effort to boost Govan’s economic development through the West End Innovation Quarter.
