I was watching your DaVinci Resolve tutorials back in 2016, now I find your channel again for Houdini tuts! Great stuff, keep posting!

thank you very much ! it helps me a lot ! I know why you do your work around at the end with @id this is because @id attribute is only on points so basically you transfer this attribute by "hand" to primitives but you can use the inbuilt attribpromote node for transfering @id from points to primitive and don't forget to untick "delete original" because you want the @id on both points and primitives

Dude, i had missed you. big fan here all the way from your color grading days to these houdini ones. Now i was wonddering, i wanna jump into Houdini and i'm not sure if i need to study coding first or should i just jump in and learn vex/python as i go. Your thoughts on this would be VERY HIGHLY APPRECIATED. Once again, its nice to see your back.

I'll let the uploader post his reply of course but my $0.02 would be that knowing a bit of coding beforehand def helps. However you can also learn vex through tutorials that focus on generating and manipulating geometry using vex. Look up David Kahl's channel if you havent already, excellent resource.

Thanks for the feedback, got a tab on David Kahl opened pronto. Just getting into python, any other language you might suggest i get proficient in other than the two (Python and Vex) Highly appreciate the info Update: Just checked your channell and promptly subbed, you got good info on there, definitely gonna go through all your tips and tuts asap

Thanks ChekiAmbalwa! You don't really need to know a lot of code to get working in houdini, the biggest hurdle is learning the different vex functions available to use. What helped me the most learning those was writing my code in VScode with the vex plugin installed. then it will do a nice job of auto completing for you and you can write experiments a little faster than having to google every line. Also, as you now know, there are lots of other great places to learn more of the ins and outs. my two favorites are entagma and cgwiki. -Theo P.s. for learning code I used code academy for python syntax/basics and have been going through hackerrank exercises to get better solving problems that are a little less hand-holdy. Once you learn one language jumping to another (like vex) isn't that hard.

Hey thanks for making a tutorial. I'm confused though- couldn't you just add a trail, followed by Add Sop with polygon by @id? Right after your POP sim (with no replicate either)

Hey, really nice tutorial. I was playing around a bit with the trail part and came across the Trail node. Do you have any reason to not use that directly?

hey man, just recently discovered your channel. Good content here. I got a question though about the *addattrib* function you are using at around 16:00 mark. I dont see the need when *i@prim_id = @primnum* would still map your custom id attrib on the prims. Left a like on the vid :)
@Miesnermedia5 жыл бұрын
Hey there! You're right, but for some reason when I was making this the first time accessing @primnum directly didn't work (i might have just spelled it wrong or something). Glad someone caught it so fast! -Theo
