Particles and Waves: Channa Horwitz

This video explores the connection between Science and Art in the work of Channa Horwitz from the points of view of two practitioners in those fields. We sit down with UC Irvine Civil & Environmental Engineer, Diego Rosso, and Los Angeles contemporary artist, Analia Saban. In their own voices, Rosso and Saban share their impressions of Horwitz' systematically derived compositions, comment on her novel integration of mathematical concepts, and contemplate links between the artist's work and their own.
Channa Horwitz, Time Structure Composition # III, Sonakinatography I, 1970, is part of Particles and Waves: Southern California Abstraction and Science, 1945-1990, now on view at Palm Springs Art Museum. This exhibition examines how concepts and technologies from the realms of advanced scientific research impacted the development of abstract (or non-figurative) styles of artwork in postwar Southern California.
