I’m on my third set of locs and I went back to a square brick pattern. I’m really liking this after having diamond parts before. My nape didn’t do well at all with diamond parting because the nape is softer and hard to loc. I also had really big locs and really skinny ones on the sides because of the way the diamonds fell. I liked the way they looked on my head but overall I’m enjoying this brick better. The nape is better, the size loc is uniform and it covers my head better.

I've always wanted to continue to maintain my own locs (haven't had anyone else's hands in my hair in over 10 years), so I opted for brick parting because I felt it was the easiest to maintain due to the straight lines.

5 months going on 6 on my loc journey I have studied before locing lol and I picked brick and I’m really glade I did bc I have fuller hair and any other parting would have gave me too much fullness for my liking! Great video new subie here your locs are beautiful as well! ❤️

So, I just started my locs with comb coils and a free parting system. The difference is, I use a comb to part my hair and the type of parting is dependent on what I feel works for that particular section of hair, at the time. I’ve always loved to experiment and try different things, so I sort of created a system that works with my head and face shape. I am loving my coils, so far, and I’m interested in seeing what they do and how they mature.

This is so true my first set was square parts and they were uniform and beautiful. I loved the look of diamond parts so that's what I got this time. Hey, quick question. I’m a man just starting locks. I plan on wearing thick locks and in two strand twists style mostly. I would like for them to fall nicely. Clean and neat is what I’m going for. What parting style would you recommend. ** I like the look of triangle parts but don’t know if that would fit the styling I would wear dreads in** thanks!

I asked the loctician about density and type of starter and sizing and she left it all up to me with "I can't do anything about your density." I chose smedium square bricks since she only offered bricks. I have thin fine coarse hair and I want pencil thin or a little more mature locs and as much fullness as possible. I'm a week post and I'm seeing the edges (which is where my hair is the thinest) are just random mini squares, uneven and smaller than other areas like she ran out of hair when she got to it or something. I am now going through to make some more even sized. I feel rectangular brick would've been better to give my edge locs more surface area. This video helped.

I have course fine hair as well and I started my locs almost 4 months ago with square pattern, which I love! But thennnn I learned about all these different patterns after, and I loved the way diamond pattern looked. Now after watching your video, I'm glad I made the right choice for me with square pattern, because I do want my locs to be the same size, and that's more important to me than having diamond parting. Plus I love seeing the grid pattern and dont mind scalp showing. It's like art to me😍

To me I think if you doing it yourself then do your best to part I believe it’s about the product you use in how full your natural hair is also to each they own I then seen so many different parted locs in some look a mess some look amazing because they take care of they hair if you do big parts or small your hair can still come out thin if you have thin hair tbh

Is it important to maintain my parts during the starter loc phase? I just did my third retwist today (month 3) and it made me cringe trying to pull hairs from locs to get my parts straight again. I wondered if it was important so that my locs stay around the same size… but could it also lead to thinning?

Great & informative video. I have more of a grid pattern but I feel I would prefer the bricklay pattern in order to hide my scalp, I do have sparse density 4c hair. I feel that my scalp is uneven. Whenever I part, it never matches up on the opposite side of my head. It's almost as if one side is a bit lower. I have started over 2x. I'm still not uncertain & anxious. The back looks OK, smaller parting & I can see the vision. The front strands are finer and I'm scared of making the parts too small, then the locs look smaller in the front and a little more fuller in the back. I'm really struggling to get the parts on point. I do not want to start over my locs. I want to be happy with the results once they start to form.
