For those interested: We want to determine the number of possible combinations of 2 different commanders. This number equals the sum from i=1 to x-1, where x is the number of unique commanders with partner. X=15+41=56. With the little gauss, this sum can be expressed with: 56*55/2=1540. If we also allow the "combination" of just 1 commander, we get 1540+56=1596.

I'm going Tormod, Glacien, Gyruda triple headed EDH! It will be a self mill deck with graveyard shenanigans. And obviously limited to even CMC only because of Gyruda. My head canon will be that Glacien in his days of madness, sought out the owner of Dominaria's most famous empty crypt. Having discovered the truth of Tormod's lich life, they team up to raise a mechanical/undead army. And of course their experiments in fusing magic and technology result in a portal to another world that they quickly seal after dumping a giant demon Kraken in their laboratory.

yeah, this is correct. If you use 56 x 55 you count all the possible permutations of commanders. This means that, effectively, you count having commanders A and B as a different possibility from having commanders B and A. This is of course not the case. Since each commander pair is counted twice ("A and B" and "B and A") we must halve the number to get the actual amount of combinations, so we get 56 x 55 / 2 = 1540.

Rograkh is useful for having access to fierce guardianship and deflecting swat turn 1, also mox jade? becomes a mox ruby, paradise mantle and spring leaf drum become 1 mana rocks and the new jeska's will is always both modes Edit: mox amber, not jade

Turn 1, lol, you can have access to them on turn 0. Partner him up with a blue partner. With Leyline of Anticipation in your opening hand, you can flash him in on your opponent's turn before you even get a turn. While what I stated is true it was said in jest.

Idk about cEDH but just in my casual playgroup Kodama seems very dominant. My favourite paring by far is Krark and Sakashima though, with the only problem being how long it takes to resolve each spell when you've got both and a Krark's thumb on the board. That's just with Sakashima, cant imagine what would happen if you ran even more clones.

Not sure if this works since these commanders are new and there effect interactions aren't completely clarified but I'm excited to build a jank infect/deathtouch build with toggo since the rock says "this creature" deals 2 to any target so that last bit of infect needs to knock a player out of the game is just a rock throw away

Honestly love the new partners, especially the familiars, except one. The Sakashima. I honestly hate that card, not because it's not good because it really, really is an amazing card, but because of the design. It is essentially the old Sakashima exchanging the bounce effect for a no legendary effect. And to me that just feels lazy. It feels especially so because we only just got a reprint in January.

I know this video is a bit old but wanted to say that I’m having a lot of fun with an Akiri-Jeska deck. It’s voltron but can be crazy fast because you only need 7 attack to get a commander damage kill. I can’t wait to tune the deck up some more and see how it really performs.

video idea/Request- Good news, the Lurrus of the Dream-den companion has some new commander options now because of Miara, Thorn of the Glade, the only 2 mana black legend with partner. There are a number of new 2 cost white partners from this set that could satisfy Lurrus's companion condition, nothing broken and seemingly fair. Plus one of the returning partners Akiri, Line-Slinger, which is 2 mana in Boros colors, could be the best option. I'm sure with Mardu, adding red to the deck could make it be fairly powerful. I'd really enjoy a deck tech on this Mitch!

Sakashima of a Thousand Faces and Kodama of the East Tree. I believe if Sakashima copies Kodama, the two will create a feedback loop every time a permanent ETBs that basically lets you play your entire hand.

I think the most obvious power combo would be Kodama/Sakashima. You could play the normal UG ramp into Kodama and then either copy Kodama for overwhelming value if you're running out of gas or just copy a huge unit like Blightsteel if you need just 1 more nail in the coffin.

It’s going to be Kodama of the East Tree and Sakashima: Simic galore. Even cloning Kodama multiple times to get its trigger multiple times and having Simic colors your hand will never be empty, so the question is how quickly those decks can ramp, draw and put into play most of their other permanents for free.

In particular, I’m really interested in seeing a Sakashima/Tormod/Gyruda clones combo deck. It’s reminiscent of the Gyruda/Spark Double deck that was in standard for a little when Ikoria first came out, except in a 100-card singleton format like commander there’s gonna be much more variance so it’d (hopefully) not get stale anywhere near as fast

Ardenn allows you to equip your rocks for free. Akiri grows with every rock you create. Kodama and Thrasios would allow you to get more landfall triggers. Keskit and Glacian can use the rocks to generate value. And Malcolm and Breeches can use Toggo's rocks to trigger their own abilities.

I'm sorry, did Eligeth say "If you would scry a number of cards, draw that many instead."? Just turned 2 cards into Ancestral Recall, Preordain & Serum Visions. Heck Artificer's Assistant just turned into a 1 mana Jhoira. Jace's Sanctum now makes Instants and Sorceries all draw you a card.

I wonder how they would need to design new 2-colored partners. I see the problem but I also see 5 color pairs having the short end of the cake X'D. As long as we don't get Vial Smasher and Thrasios again. I had this weird idea of a BR Pirate Zombie that put treassure tokens on lands whenever it attack or whenever you sacrifice treassures. And when the land is destroyed you basicly dig the treassure up in form of gold. I wonder if that concept would break things.

I personally LOVE Sakashima.. the possibilities to create copies of your other Partners are just bonkers. Bonus Point: You can clone Sakashima too and create even more copies of your one Partner. My personal Favorites so far: Ich-Tekik and Kediss or basically anything that has a triggered Ability.

TLDR> correct answer is 55x56/2 combinations if there are 56 commanders, you do the math like that: 1 commander can pair with 55 others (excluding himself) another commander can pair with 54 (excluding the one above, since we already did that pair) another can pair with 53 (excluding the 2 above) 52 ... the last commander can only pair with one so we add them all, and we get 1+2+3+4+...+55 = 55x56/2 xD

They are completely separate. They both start and return to the command zone, but are independent from each other.

I'm toying with the idea of turning my Boros Akiri, Fearless Voyager Equipment deck into Jeskai. Ardenn/Kraum, Akiri/Glacian and Ishai/Kediss all look promising, and I might just try all of them out. Also, my personal favorite pick for Sakashima would probably be Reyhan. Use Clones and Copy spells to make even more copies of Reyhan, and once you reach critical mass, sacrifice the Sakashima-Reyhan. All of the copies will die and all Reyhans will trigger their ability for each of the dying ones.

I really like a lot of the new monocolored partners and I think if partner returns again it should probably be more monocolored partners. I prefer partner with, though. Partner gives a lot of fun deckbuilding options, but partner with tends to feel more cohesive and unique from both a mechanical and lore perspective.

I'm definitely looking forward to this but edhrec is in a super-duper panic because of 1540 combinations coming up but I will say they failed on a couple of preventing them from being overpowered believe it or not Dargo is actually one of them because people are brewing an infinite storm with him and josh and jimmy just did a one-hit-wonder trick with him on a very small number of turns even though high CMC Kodama is definitely the winner of the most obvious of busted legends because that ability really should have included "nontoken and nonland permanent"

Rog + Jeska seems like a really obvious monocolored pair. Multiple commander casts help Jeska stay on the field and ping blockers away, and you only need to buff Rog up to 7 Attack to get in oneshot range.
