I feel your pain Steve spend time to organize things only to find myself stacking stuff somewhere else while Im searching for something and then come back and have to move that stuff back on the shelf because its now blocking something else Im looking for and for a moment I thought Steve was in my parts room! I can't tell you how many times I've said the same thing. "I've got a 100 of them somewhere, I'll just order another one." Only to find it the day the new one arrives or right after I've installed the darn thing. That's with everything labeled in detail. Keep it up Steve wish I had your knowledge mine is in a library full of old dusty shop manuals next to the parts room. Steve has to be one of the most down to earth celebrities I know of. Keep real Steve some of us can't afford $1000s for heads or tricked out suspension parts but can run with the ones who can... namaste bro 🤙🏼

Production is really benefiting from your excellent set up! You might need to ask that there be a clean up at the end of every day, if you crash at the end of a long day, then still you don’t start shooting the next day until everything is cleaned up. Label your shelves so others can help clean up, include a drop area for things that are dirty, don’t have a place or the other person doesn’t know what to do with them. That drop area is one of the things that has to be cleared every day. Build a caddy for the crew tables, chairs, ect where the stuff should be stored between shoots. Maybe even mark the floor where the stuff should be set up when needed. A little work can make everyone happier in the long run.

I took a month off work last year and one week of that was cleaning up my property, clearing the access road etc. and one week was cleaning up my workshop. It was about 8 years overdue but it has been magical working in the shop since then.

This was therapeutic. It's a good thing that I don't have as much space as you. I'm a sucker for ordering more parts for the discount in shipping and then my inventory just increases for those future projects that never seem to happen.

My parts collection is nowhere near the size of yours, but I feel your pain. One detached garage, and I have 4 motorcycles, random parts for all of them, random piles of 67 Chevy parts, as well as a few random piles of 80s Dodge parts. That doesn't include my entire wall of moving boxes, or any of tools, tool boxes or my engine stand and cherry picker. One day we WILL figure out how to properly organize. It just won't be today. Appreciate the tour!

I know exactly what you going through man, I buy and sell a ton of vintage speed parts for Mopars along with filming out of my garage for our KZbin show, and I make it a goal to do a garage overhaul about every 4 months. I basically spend an entire day pulling almost everything out and reorganizing everything. I could probably do your store with ease, it already has a great organization going on, it just needs a good tidying up. Also if you got any parts you want to sell you can get ahold of me through Chris Birdsong, he is good friend of mine and your contact info would be safe, same thing goes with if you are looking for anything, just let me know. I hope you get the room sorted out because I know the funk of disorganization, can lead to a bunch of headaches.

Steve, The DLSR room it’s just like any other project, getting started is the hardest part. Take an old toilet paper roll stand somewhere in the room and hold the roll to your eye. Start working on the section of the room you can see through the toilet paper roll. By the time you finish the small section you viewed through the toilet paper roll you can be done for the day, or if you’re on a roll or you feel like doing more; go for it!

Your not alone Steve, alot of people have similar problems. Take a deep breath, you already have a great start. Anyone can see you tried to be very organized at one point in time. Make a lists and catalog your parts cams with all valve train components. Carbs and carb parts with manifolds. Oil pans and pick ups. Engine internals. Engine externals. New with new. Used with used. Tag used parts what they fit. You may need some new shelves to go with what you have. You will have a system. Make an inventory list. So at a glance if you need something, you know what you have. I am impressed you have an amazing parts hoard. Represents many years of work and dedication to Mopars. Thank you, EM.

I think you have identified the issue, I love the comment about the dead thing on the road, and you are working on the solution. Wish I was closer because I believe we could work out a system that you could walk up and find exactly what you want, and anyone that cares would be able to restock. Maybe one day I’ll road-trip from Virginia, I’ll bring refreshments.
@mikepoint47172 жыл бұрын
That’s a cool parts room. I used to rob parts from Pete to Pay Peter and it never works as you still need to replace the part. I make a list triple check it then when I get the part I check the part # to make sure it’s the correct part as we all know waiting for parts is MAD .
@C--A--M2 жыл бұрын
As one OCD man to another, I propose the following: start left to right or right to left (whichever you prefer) within your parts room and then organize every shelf/shelving unit from top to bottom in relation to an engine (carburetors, intakes, valve train, camshafts, cylinder heads, and so on). Once that's done, label each shelf/shelving unit in some way (perhaps attached to magnets), so you can move them around as your inventory/needs change. This way, your parts room will always be in "order" (pun intended). 😉 Hope this helps and God Bless from Springfield, Missouri. 🤓

I would highly suggest you find a person who is a Mopar freak, not a fan but a freak, and have them come in as your parts manager. Teach them YOUR system and turn them loose to get the room in order. It will free up your time by not having to look for stuff yourself and it will keep the room in order for when the manager is not there.
