Not sure if people know. But many of these guys hang out at The Parts Express forums, and are a wealth of knowledge.

The Black Widows look really nice, the cardboard looks intriguing... lots of really cool speakers this year. The Strafi is my favorite, the work on that box looks outstanding!

Corrado VRz Yea the joinery is great on those. Those cardboard horns were awesome. I would love to know more, and get to actually hear them. This show is going on the old bucket list.

So jelly, I love that you guys provide a public stage for hobbyists to meet and share their creations. You could probably buy some speakers for less but why buy something you like when you can build something you love. I will definitely try to go next year.

I'm sure any of these guys could build a set of speakers that would absolutely blow away a similarly priced box-name brand. I know I have, and I'm still technically a speaker building n00b.
@amb3cog6 жыл бұрын
Kcducttaper1 Well yea. They're not trying to do it at a set price point to meet the profit goals. Companies will sell flawed speakers that need only a simple fix, like a notch filter to fix them. All over a $3.00 per unit savings.

appreciate all the footage of this competition. could watch alot more. interested in how these amateurs recreate their favorite companies designs that cost as much a house. also companies cut corners due to cost restrictions and manufacturing difficulty. this competition deserves alot of credit. blind listening tests would prove how properly used parts express speakers closely compare to these millionaire speakers of our dreams.

Now someone go and argue about sound quality with pretty much any of the builders xD You're in for a whole lot new kind of hell you didn't have any idea existed xD
@macallac40747 жыл бұрын
Well it seems that all the Legends get to do a Quality build off to see who has the most unique builds of all audio cabinets, towers, horns and etc. Yes I call them legends because they all know how "Sound Quality" is supposed to sound in style. When my father was alive he used to build his own speaker cabinets but he never entered a competition like this. The texture, placement and time that these people have is brilliant! If only I had the time and patience to do something like this, I would but I don't have the proper tools nor do I have the knowledge to build unique sound systems like this. I can only build simple speaker enclosure. Congrats to all these artists though!

You should come to Midwest Audiofest next year! You can see and hear all these speakers in person!
@amb3cog6 жыл бұрын
It's not rocket science. They even sell flat packs if you don't have the woodworking tools/skills yourself. Just need to do the research. Or get a kit/copy a design.

Great video !!! Surprised I didn't see any subs from the bass heads ??

I built 3 or 4 pair of speakers (a gazillion years ago!) using drivers I could salvage out of old hifi consoles (that would probably be worth a small fortune now!). I would like to build some more in the future. I'm just starting to put together a new sound system here. I bought an Audio Technica LP120 turntable a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to buy a Yamaha A-S301 next week and I just picked up a pair of Yamaha NS-70s and a Yamaha YST-SWO12 powered sub to hook it all to.

Pretty cool. Is there one for the East coast?

Wow ... exceptional creations indeed. However at 3:38 ... why not arched with a concave shape, i.e. with drivers firing to the sweet spot ? what is the benefit of sending signals towards the ceiling ? I understand that a listening room ceiling should be treated in order to avoid sound reflections. Just asking. Thanks a lot, gino

The idea is to emulate a spherical wavefront.

Parts Express what crossover you recommend for a DIY 2 way Boombox with a 3/4" Dayton Audio Tweeter and Dayton Audio Classic Woofer 6.5"?
@amb3cog6 жыл бұрын
Edrick Mendez Generic crossover will sound terrible. And everyone always says they don't care, until afterwards. Then they regret it. It has to be custom built for every speaker. There are programs to help you, but you need to measure the drivers to really do it right. However. You could enter the manufacturers Thiele-Small parameters, along with the dimensions of your boxes, and hopefully get close. Just depends how far off they are from reality. They're almost never right, but some are pretty close.
