Are your indicated altitudes the same as the actual PA? In other words, lets say the current altimeter setting is 29.42, and we climb to an indicated altitude of 5200' feet assuming we set the current 29.42 altimeter setting on our altimeter. Isn't our actual PA 5200' + 500' = 5700' ? Does this make sense or am I analyzing this too much? Thoughts?

I think i am making sense of what you’re asking and the answer is No… the only time indicated would match pressure altitude is when the pressure setting is also standard. You are correct in your example that we would have a pressure altitude of 5700’ at that altimeter setting.

Wind direction is not needed for computing true airspeed. It’s used to compute ground speed which we have a video for that as well if you check out our page
