Envy Merrill doesn’t hate spirits, if anything she likes them. She just has an understanding of them all being potentially dangerous. She’d probably be confused and awkward with Cole. Anders wouldn’t like him, probably. Justice/Vengeance would definitely not appreciate the spirit poking around in their head.

17:04 what iron bull is saying is a reference to the movie seven samurai. In the movie seven ronin (wandering samurai with no lords to serve) are hired by a village to protect them from raiding bandits and the villagers only had rice to offer them as payment.
