I have taught children for many years, and a lot of the time, the boys don't want to interact with the girls and vice versa. *As a fellow party princess, I can soundly say that difficult moms are a nightmare in the moment, but difficult dads haunt my dreams.* I remember one Anna & Elsa gig where basically there were two parties going on, one for the 3-year-old girls and one for the dads drunkenly barbecuing. I went into this thinking 'okay, that's fine all we have to do is entertain the kids for an hour, make some crafts, sing some songs and get out of there'. HOWEVER, the dads made it their mission to ask Elsa all these beer-goggle-fueled questions about the plot of Frozen - which was fine, until I ended up getting separated from my Anna, who was doing princess lessons inside. I tried multiple times to leave and get back to the kids, but the dads kept saying stay and offering me alcohol, even escalating to uncomfortable flirting & complimenting my costume (which of course was a corset, skirt with a slit, and sheer undershirt that never made me feel more naked than in that moment). They demanded a round of pictures (just them, no kids) and one of the dads told me not to leave without saying goodbye to him *specifically*. I finally broke away to the children and the rest of the party went well once I was back to my sparkles and face painting routine. Towards the end, the birthday girl told Elsa & Anna that she wanted us to come to see her room, she had a bedspread with our faces and was so excited for us to see it. We double-checked for permission and I hear one of the dads whisper under his breath that he'd like to take me to see his room too..... ew. As soon as my time was up, my performer and I just left (our clients pay upfront), forgoing the tip, I didn't want any of the dads to walk us out as I felt uncomfortable enough already. Not the biggest horror story, but definitely takes root in my biggest fears as a teen going to relative stranger's houses, even with a partner. A LOT. I didn't work as an official party princess, but I did do kids birthday parties at an indoor playground and we had birthday party packages from like 400$ - 800+$. We also had private parties where you could rent out the entire facility but that was within the thousands range. And we were not a professional princess package or in New York city. It is shocking how much cash parents will drop on a four year olds party.
