Leeches will typically fall off on their own in 20 minutes and their bite isn't painful. But I can see being young that it might be a terrifying situation. They really are no big deal and don't carry disease or anything.

So when I got out of the lake, I had thousands, and i mean thousands of tiny leeches allllll over my bits. They were only like 1/4 to 1/2 an inch long. Scariest thing that's happened to me.

here’s a funny story that happened to my brother, so basically we were all in canoe’s or something and my girlfriend and his brother were in one together, they were coming near tree branches soon and they were nervous, his girlfriend grabbed the branches and made it so that she could go through them without getting her head hit, meanwhile my brother got smacked in his forehead, we still tease him to this day.

As an outdoor summer camp teacher I'm so upset to hear the canoe story. Rivers are so insanely dangerous and when near submerged snag life jackets can often be lethal, as the strong current pushes people under the snag and they get caught. Those counselors needed some serious river safety training before being allowed to take kids out. If the current is too strong for an adult to move around in it, it's to dangerous to take kids out unless you are an expert boatswain!

Yep, ssc is the only campsite that is less than 10% touched by concrete (which is also why it's my favourite local campsite.) and also the only one that has it's own milo pond. I’m a cit (councilor in training) but a couple years ago when I was a camper we had a councilor we hated (I don’t remember why) but for some reason the older girls started a rumout that she was a child molester as a joke/ nickname. Well it traveled around camp and it became a huge joke with the girls and then the other counselors found out and we got talked to. But there’s more. Later the next day I gave her a hug and got face paint on her shirt (it washed out) but then she bit into a ballon (idk why) and she was allergic to latex so she got an epi pen BUT THEN we had a party thing and she was also epileptic and someone turned off the lights and had glow sticks and we flashed them around. We were honestly horrible to her but it all turned out ok in the end.

I am a volunteer counselor at a marine science camp. Some days, we go on field trips or have animal touching for the kids (it’s all safe for the animals, don’t worry). One day I was looking at a kelp crab with a camper. He picked it up out of the tub, holds it upside down, and started freaking out when the crab started to move. After trying to get him to put it down, the camper got scared and almost threw the crab. This kind of stuff never happens, we’re very safe with the animals and are always very clear about what the campers are allowed to do. I swear my life flashed before my eyes. (the crab was okay, I was able to stop the camper before anything happened)

One of the other counselors asked me in front of my campers if I’d ever “done it” on a beach before....and my campers were in middle school so some of them definitely knew what he meant.

Me & my family go camping every summer at different places. we were camping at Yellowstone national park, a place we've been several times before, & we were camping near a lake. when we got out of the car, there seemed to be a lot of gnats or something everywhere. they were actually mosquitoes. SO MANY MOSQUITOES. most mosquitoes are only out in the evening, but we soon realized that that was just some kinds others can be out any time of day. there was such a variety at the campsite that the amount of mosquitoes only let up for about an hour around noon. we had 1 1/2 cans of bug spray with us and 8 people in the family. the campground had been reserved for 2 weeks. since bug spray is so expensive in Yellowstone, ($5 a can. it's a closed market, they can charge what they want) my dad ended up driving home (we lived close) to buy 6 cans of it. most of the trip was spent in the park procrastinating the return to the campsite.

I can relate to the first story LMAOO. One of the kids "had an accident" and literally didn't day anything. Until one of the kids said "it smells like poop" , all the kids got grossed out. He completely denied it until we had to go to the rr. I had to let my supervisor know and she came and he literally smelled all day . It was horrible. The worse part of this was I actually knew his mom lmaoo. When she came I couldn't even face her. My supervisor had to tell her . First and last time I worked their.

When I was 6 or 7, our summer camp went on a trip to the pool. See, it was one of those camps where they have CIT’s (counselors in training). So, we all go swimming in the pool, and as the older counselors give the “five minute warning”, we all see blood in the pool. An older CIT had got mad at his little brother, who is also in the camp. He had pushed him against the side of the pool. The older CIT’s little brother had scratched his back against the side of the pool, and was now unconscious. In the deep end. Under the (closed) diving board. Since he was under the diving board, none of the counselors were around to get him. Some older kids yelled and screamed for the counselors. They eventually came and they called an ambulance. Not fun.

I worked at a boy scout camp during all four years of highschool. The summer I was going into college was the summer that we just ran out of food for dinner at least one or two nights a week. Plus one week we had 1,000 Mormon adult scout leader and campers. It was the most crazy we of my life working in our dinning hall. We had to plit the camper in half two set if breakfast, launch, and dinner. It was a crazy made house that with dunning staff that we.

I was a camp counselor at a camp and this little girl and her friends were doing each other's hair and they were all sharing brushes soon like all the girls were doing it (it was an all girl camp) when a little later a girl was saying "my head is itchy" turns out she had live and her brush was the main one used. So at the end of camp we had to explain to all the parents what happened. Thankfully most of the parents did not blame us but we had a few that were FURIOUS. One lady in particular tried to SUE the camp. And it was her daughter that had started with lice, and she actually knew about it and did not say anything but she still blamed us

They aren’t harmful thank goodness but yeah I hear where you’re coming from. I don’t care for insects etc especially crawly/slimy ones. 🤢

Several years ago, a counselor at my camp jumped in the lake (it was part of a skit) and broke his ankle three ways. Then, the other counselors had to rush us inside so we wouldn’t be traumatized and made loud noises to cover up the sound of the ambulance 😂
