I am starting to realize that half the problem with this new war system is not that it lacks depth. Its just that paradox does a very bad job explaining how it works to the player.

Exactly my issue. It's fairly complex (could definitely benefit from more complexity and customization though), but the real issue is not understanding why I'm winning or losing, or why the game tells me I have the advantage and then lose.

I still can not understand why my army with double men and better equipment can not win the battle. All I saw is three confusing buttons.

I find the Great Power AI is far too willing not only to intervene but also to fully mobilise. So they'll send like 200 battalions to intervene in a tiny play in South America between minor powers apparently ignoring the massive costs this will incur for almost no benefit to them. It'd be cool if you could make deals like swapping colonies, buying territory etc. too - i.e. diplomacy without war.

had a dispute with another small country. The next thing I know is I had all top 8 great powers piled into it. It felt like the victorian WW1 🤣

It feels like the whole War and Combat mechanics were designed for the AI to fight each other. Then Paradox realized, oh shit wait, this is actually a game where real humans play too. What should we do? Ah screw it, lets just leave it as it is. Not gonna lie, not even having any troops what so ever visually on the map is incredibly boring. Even if the whole war system was automated, as if Hearts of Iron 4 was run by fully automated armies, it would STILL be better, just being able to see the troops move and attack or defend. They basically removed the one and only thing that made the game "feel" like you were running a real nation, instead of just playing a paper table top game.

It's utter nonsense. They've given us possibly the most micromanagey game ever and wants the player to individually manage 30+ states but then simultaneously they've given us the most boring abstract combat system ever. I wouldn't even mind but the war system is actually still quite finicky and certainly isn't hands off either
@RogerCillion
@RogerCillion Жыл бұрын
I like the system. It's much more real than hoi4. How on earth do you as the leader of a nation see the troops ? On a zeppelin? 😊 Besides, it's the generals that command the troops while you only declare fronts as a player. As in real life you are kind of out of control and it very much boils down to random events combined with some war goals.

I actually like the idea of this combat system but the complete yolo idk nature of how many units end up in a battle, and their refusal to explain any of it is kind of ruining it for me.

There are other great guides. There is NO such thing as best in anything in life. When one states that something is the best is purely personal opinion. Andys Take and potatomcwhisky have fantastic guides also and im sure there are others that I havent seen thus far.

Britan can consisently field 120 battalions in a single battle, I as Punjab only ever brought to the field half that, and only ever bring a tiny fraction to attack anyone else. Same problem as Russia vs Austria, even where my generals battalions easily exceeded 100. Its not just poorly explained, its obscured to the point of seeming completely random.

@@NB-yu4lj not gonna bore you with the war stuff hahaha enough has been said bout it, aside from that: the supply:demand system now operates on an infinite resources principle so shortages are way less impactful,the passing of reforms are based on monthly probability and not in raw popular support and militancy, economy is always microed instead of depending on the political orientation of the ruling party, westernisation has been removed, faction-based rebels no longer exist and are now simply mixed together in the "radical" group etc etc

So much complexity for absolutely no specific benefit; only to appear more complex and Pdox touting it as "revolutionary" and "deep." Pdox finally has reached creative bankruptcy (long overdue anyways).

Either take the capital, or the territory designated as your war goal. That will force them to exhaustion faster. Once you control said land, just switch to a defensive strategy and wait for their troops to tire of fighting.
