I was so impressed with Ranjit - "I want to make the house ready for my wife to come in, otherwise she might not be happy here." I think they are both starting off with the right attitude - that it's going to be work, but it's going to be worth it. I think sometimes in "love matches," the couple assumes that love will conquer all, and so they don't go into it prepared to work at it in the same way.

Thank you so much! I have watched many Sikh weddings on utube and have often wondered what the rituals actually meant. The bride and groom reflect the rich traditions of an ancient culture. It's really amazing and the deep respect for the older generation and tradition. The bridal couple gives myself an outsider a glimpse into how maharaja Sikh must have looked like. Most appreciated.

In Muslim and Indian communities the mothers are worshiped and obeyed. Thats the reason the love of Lady Diana's life, Hasnat Khan would not marry her. Sher went to Pakistan to meet his mother and win her approval. She failed. The wealthy and discreet high class Khans did not wand the drama and paparazzi that came with Diana. They also did not find Diana very stable. And they were right. So she and Hasnat broke up and Diana took up with Dodi on the rebound. And in this case the mother did approve her sons choice so it all worked out. @@nkhen_c357

There is no problem with arranged marriages, if done right. Dating is terrible now a days, there are to many options and people don't want to commit. This way is easier, your parents can find someone who is serious and wants to commit, instead of wasting months and years waiting for your partner to commit.

I went to school with a British-Pakistani muslim girl. When she was 13, she was taken out of school. There were rumours that she was taken to Pakistan to get married, I thought it was kids just gossiping, at 13 myself, I'd never heard of such a thing (it was the early '90s. One year later, she had returned to school and indeed, married to a guy in his 30's and he came to live with her family in the UK. She was no longer allowed to dress in western style clothing, having to dress modestly with her hair and face covered. She seemed happy, but very grown up.

A marriage has a much better rate of success when the entire family is also invested. It's not about puppy love, it's about a deep commitment to a covenant bond with your spouse. I love how so many family members are in hand to prepare the bride and groom. I love this so much!

Strange how in arranged marriage couples that I've seen. You have a man coming here to the states with his parents and brothers but somehow leaves his wife back in the country they came from and will eventually bring her here. In the meantime, he's partying every chance he gets and definitely not being faithful like his wife is expected to be while he's not around. I've seen this in 4 different families so how is it the husbands parents allow this when they're the ones who insisted of an arranged marriage? Just courious..

Thank you to all families for letting us see into these wonderful weddings and good luck to all of them (from here in a very Indian part of London). My only advice to all the couples is make sure you are 100% sure under the civil law of the country where you marry that you have a civil marriage too otherwise none of the legal rights apply. In the UK Christian and Jewish marriage MUST have the civil part at the same time. However the other religions do not have to do so (not least because muslims are allowed 4 wives). If the new spouse is not married also under civil law there are no protective civil law legal rights . I have known someone who deliberately did not do the civil part so his wife had no claims on him on divorce in England.

Throughout history and many cultures arranged marriages are nothing new. Arranged marriages occur in the Bible. The concept of ‘love’ unions was popularised in the west in the early 19th century with the rise of romantic fiction. Prior to that families arranged the unions of the young men and women in the family.

In da west da thinking is ' you came for a beta life to white European settled ex colonies so now you must follow our rules ' that thinking is for the average Joe but in the west amongst the wealthy - it's arranged marriages of heirs to vast fortunes based on a marriage bond brings the business aspects of each together. For those PPL from India that settled in the west esp the elderly the idea of holding onto ur Indian heritage & culture is key to identify. Because no matter how we dress as a westerner we remain Indian in the eyes of non Indians so we mite as well embrace that difference to contribute to the tapestry of our adopted countries.
