At least he never promised he would stay. The whole time he was there he always said he was focused on this season and would worry about free agency whenever it came. That's part of the reason why the fans in Toronto don't hate him. Aside from the Chip he never gave them false hope he'd stay. I actually think they knew he would leave and just focused on that season.
