i saw him do a solo of this in San Francisco in the early 90s some club south of market, this has same impact, one of my favourite musical works in the known universe, lyrics are so pure and right, delivery so honest, lovely

I saw Peter Hammill at a solo concert in Quebec-city in the late seventies or early eighties at the Cinema Cartier with a 500 seat capacity. Just him with a piano and and an acoustic guitar. We all felt so close to him. I consider Peter Hammill more of a poet than a singer. He does not have the best vocals but the emotions he transmits through his lyrics are unsurpassed. One of my favorites of all times. In the same league as Arthur Rimbaud and Emile Nelligan.

A great performance of the VDGG-classic. One of the best solo-versions (without Hugh, David and Guy). Different - but really really wonderful. Thanks, Michal for featuring your (and our) "favourite artist".

Searching for diamonds in the sulphur mine Leaning on props that are rotten Hoping for anything, looking for a sign That I am not forgotten; Lost in a labyrinth of future mystery Tracing my steps, all mistaken Trusting to everything, praying it can be That I am not forsaken I wait by the door Wondering when you will come and keep me warm I pray for the end of this night And I'm hoping the light will still the storm Which presently entraps me: Helpless sea-monster stranded on the shore Marooned in an ecstasy of waiting I yearn, although knowing that I shall dive no more In the tide alrеady racing My lungs burst to cry: "Finally how could you leave me hеre to die?" I freeze in the chill of this place With no friendly face to smile goodbye… How could you let it happen? How could you let it happen? How could you let it happen? How could you let it happen? Dreams, hopes and promises, fragments out of time All of these things have been spoken Still you don't understand how it feels when I'm Waiting for them to be broken Waiting for them to be broken Waiting for them to be broken

When i see that not even a 300 persons have watched this, i think to myself how bad the good music and culture are denied to most of the people. Peter Hammill is an artist that is not even named by Roger Waters for ex... knowing that Peter Hammill is a better composer and lyrics writer than him....
