I live in the mountains and walk with a ski pole. It doesn't look out of place and can be used for dogs, snakes, bad guys and if you need to ascend a hill it helps. I think the sticks are a great idea and this is a good channel. I carried sticks before I started using the ski poles. I keep sticks inside my house for emergencies.

Hi Matt. Thank you for the hand made Tanbo you sent me this week. It has an excellent feel when holding it. While I don't use it for fighting, I use it on my hands to help with my arthritis pain. I just gently tap my arm with it, from my elbow to finger tips. The Japanese practice "Do-In", which is a type of self-healing therapy massage, is how I use it. Your Tanbo arrived here within a week, and I really appreciate your dedication, and attention to detail, in creating such a simple tool! 👍

The nice thing with sticks like these is that even if they are illegal to carry many places, you'll quickly find something like it anywhere. So its absolutely worth learning!

This is a timely video for me. I just inherited my Grandfather patrol Paton. In the 1940's he carried it around the prison where he was the Warden. It is 18 inches long and looks like a baton with the hand grip.

Hi Matt, sorry i couldn't make class. I believe i had mentioned previously your 18 inch Tanbo dimensions are identical to the 18 inch Monadnock police straight baton that were issued to us back in the1970's. I believe its striking force is approximately the same. Many officers regretted when the PD switched to the PR24, because for in close self defense situations and applying takedown techniques, the 18 inch baton in my opinion proved to be superior. It was also easier to carry in the baton ring, and less possibility of having it taken away, if a situation went south into a "hands on" confrontation. Your techniques are very much the same as our PD Academy, but more inclusive because as you know, certain techniques are more restrictive for LEO's. I carry my stick in my vehicle everywhere i go. Great, great class. Stay safe. Doug.

Btw, that stick also makes a very effective missile weapon. I am familiar with a story of a woman who was being chased in the park by a rapist, picked up one of these sticks and (since she had been trained on how to hunt with this weapon) threw it at the attacker (similar to a boomerang) and broke two of his ribs! There is a cumulative centrifugal force, like the blades of a helicopter that is quite devastating. This is also known as a rabbit stick, where it is routinely thrown at small game (rabbit, squirrel, larger birds etc.), to obtain food; it has been said that if a headshot is obtained, even larger game like deer can be taken down using this method. My sincere thanks for covering this weapon in a unique way, as I was "stuck in the mud" of using this only as a missile weapon, without realizing its massive value as a HTH combat force multiplier! This is a great value you offer to this community, providing multiple & varied approaches for self defense, THANK YOU! Personal Note: I actually made one of these for myself in my new residence, in case the grocery stores should unexpectedly close for some unforeseen reason (so I could hunt for food) and I have it sitting by my front door. I simply took a large branch that fell from a tree in the front yard, identified a relatively straight piece at exactly the length you described (finger tips to arm crease), sawed it off and voila! Its maple wood so still pretty hard huh? Ok, ok, can't help myself because I am so excited that I just bought my first Canemasters, pure hickory combat cane! I will be using your videos to train it. Hey, did you know there is a kata for the cane? I ran into this older practitioner on KZbin that created an awesome kata that includes multiple opponents, spinning & multiple strikes!

uk based. we cant even carry a stick. The second we say something is for self defence, it becomes an offensive weapon. weep for us. :/
@redpillnibbler4423
@redpillnibbler4423 Жыл бұрын
Yes the police can cite anything as an offensive weapon if they choose.Don’t give them any excuse to arrest you - they don’t serve the law abiding person. An 18 inch stick would definitely be viewed as an offensive weapon as there is no obvious reason to carry it other than self defence (offence).

most members of the public will buy the bs spun by politicians. something happens to someone and the politicians point at it and say, 'for too long we have been too lenient concerning *insert bannable thing here*. this is why this happens. I will do something about this and ban the possession of *bannable thing*'. They make it really emotive and make it sound like if you dont want these things banned, then you obviously want death. people still havent worked this out. also, we dont have a direct hand in these laws. we vote them in. they do whatever the hell they want. we've had years of this government. almost 14. and even tho we have many political parties, only 2 stand a chance of getting in and the longer things go on, the more and more they look like each other. We no longer have enough police to keep order and so crime shoots up. and I'm stuck in a country thats full of idiots who seem to want to perpetuate this pantomime by taking advantage of the lack of police and go around stabbing and stealing. the plaster for the wound our politicians offer sounds good to people who dont understand whats happening.. democracy. pfft. whats that? @@Jackknife1951

Do not fool yourself or anyone else into thinking that things are going to get “better”, because Jesus Christ said, “When you see these things occurring, know that the end is close. For true Christians, this means liberation from a world of corruption. For name only Christians it means destruction. As Jesus said: “Not everyone saying to me, Lord, Lord will inherit the Kingdom of God.” So anyone who is not obedient to Him will not be here for long. Amen

Hello , with all do respect , i watched many of your videos ,,,,,, And i think this is theory ,theroy , theory ,,,,,,repeating over and over the same thing. !!!!! No offense , but i would like to see you with a real street fighter or two and how you will make up ???? I think you are pushing to much a little bit .......
@pasquinilli
@pasquinilli Жыл бұрын
That’s a good point and fair observation. I’m not really teaching against street fighters though or someone who really knows how to fight or fight with a blade. I’m giving instruction for the common opportunist who intimidates and strikes out of opportunity. The coward who can’t really fight but strikes because they see an easy target. I’m also giving a starting point to a lot of people who have zero experience and a lot of fear. It’s either curl up in a corner and never leave the house for fear of an attack, or start to learn to fight back. Some will go on to find a coach or instructor and really learn how to get hit and survive, and others will just get enough confidence to stop being controlled by a mostly irrational fear. I am always open to stress testing the “theory” and learning where I am wrong. Thanks for your feedback. It is very important.
@dougboal7620

I disagree with your perspective. If you have any knowledge of law enforcement training, then you have an idea of how much repetition is required to perform even fundamental techniques effectively with muscle memory. Let me state an example. When our PD transitioned to 9mm semi auto pistols, it was a week long process to become certified, before authorization to carry on or off duty. The 1st day was nothing but tearing down the weapon and then reassembly numerous times. After that was "racking the slide" over, and over, and over for hours. This was performed so many times that every one had to apply band aids to the thumbs and index fingers due to bloody torn skin. This didn't even include dry firing. It wasn't until the 3rd day of training that we actually fired our weapons. So different techniques can certainly be learned through practice, but to make it an automatic instinctive response, then a much higher level of training is required. It is only then that the technique can be measured as "effective" in confrontational situations but also knowing when it should be performed.
