Its so comforting to know that these songwriters experience the same problems that I experience more or less. Its so easy to get caught up in your own head and think you can't do it, but that's a universal thing that we all struggle with, and most of the time all you can do about it is to let go and see what happens

I love feeling like a fly on the wall listening to really interesting people engage. It's like sitting in a cafe, waiting for your day to start and overhearing a conversation next to you. I desprately want to jump into it and ask questions, but I don't know why! I'm not a musician, but I feel like these conversations are universal truths that can apply to anything a person is passionate about.

Thanks for having Dave on! He's one of my favorite artists of all time. I saw you guys play together in Albuquerque around 2011 at the Sunshine Theater, I believe. Oddly enough, the same friend turned me on to both Jimmy Eat World and Pedro the Lion around 20 years ago. I'll be forever in his debt.

This is my favorite thing on KZbin. I have been watching all of these episodes and the mini dives and getting really inspired to try new things, or recognize things I do that I didn't even realize were conscious decisions. Quick question for all the fans of mostly 80's-90's (and just a smidgen of the early to mid 2000's) punk/emo/etc. I'm pretty sure I've become the old guy who thinks that all music today sucks ass, and I really miss that feeling of running to vintage vinyl to pick up the new album by J church, J.E.W., Jets to Brazil, or any other amazing band beginning with J. There wasn't really a specific sound through that time frame, but there was something special about it that I can't quite put my finger on. Bands sounded very different from each other, yet similar enough to the point where it was damn near impossible to pick an ultimate favorite. The good thing is that even after 30+ years, I can still enjoy listening to all those old albums (almost as much as I did when they were new). The last band I fell in love with was Forgetters, and that kinda doesn't count because I was following the artists previous bands. OK, no more filibustering. The question is this... Can any of you please give me suggestions of newer bands that have the same feeling of bands from back then? Maybe even list some of your favorites from back then in case I missed it. Thanks

I’m with you on what you’re saying.. a 2010-present modern band that I’ve only recently discovered and seen live is PUP. Their album Morbid Stuff is great from start to finish and is full of the energy and passion we’re used to from back then. Give it a go and see what you think if you haven’t heard them already!

Frank P I agree. In his rig rundown he said he does it so that switching back and forth with an acoustic is easier. I’ve played a friend’s that was set up with 13s and it was odd, but for a strictly rhythm player like myself, it did feel better hopping back and forth. I’ll probably be too lazy to ever do it lol!

Desperate for approval I just put out my fifth short film, which I think is my best yet but has a lot of problems. I shared it with my friends who worked on it with me and with my parents. They all said they liked it and I was disappointed. I am also negative like Bazan in the sense that I get paranoid, I think, oh they are only saying that bc they are being nice. If it was really good or worthwhile people would be telling me to quit. So I began thinking, I just want someone to tell me I'm shit. So my dad finally watched it, and he didn't finish it. He told me it wasn't his cup of tea. In a strange way, that felt the best. Because you know it's honest

Aha so true about a show having a glitch making it that much more memorable. The one time I saw RATM was 2010 at the La coliseum and the sound dropped twice to the opening of testify like Jim said theirs had dropped twice gearing the crowd aha crowd was like awh then started again but dropped again and then started again aha. Another time is when circa had an acoustic performance in Mesa at the art center and the power to the city went out by us plugging in aha literally got the moment the sound and power went out, it was such a unique noise and crowd awh aha truly made it that much more memorable. Always love these and the fender ads 😆
