I would not trade for Crochet if he is informing teams he would not pitch in the post season unless the team signs him to a long term deal. There are other pitchers out there such as Anderson, Flaherty, Fedde, Quantrill, or Eovaldi.

If the Padres want Crochet they will have to give up either Salas or De Vries. Even after the draft this year the Padres only have 3 prospects above a 45 FV that haven't debuted in the MLB yet per Fangraphs. Lesko the only pitcher above a 40+ FV is having a terrible year. Snelling is a 40+ FV and doing terrible. I just don't see how their pitchers will move the needle.

De Vries I read has 19 hits and 6HR in his last 15 games. I wonder if he'll be Top 10 prospect status soon 😳 I think he is going to be higher than Salas, who might drop a bit.

The problem with that is De Vries and Salas are just so young. The quickest they will be in the MLB is in 2027. Machado will be 35 and making 40M per year in 2027. Do they even have the time to wait for these players because they are in win now mode?

@@AgnusDeiGloria If they are cooked now they are cooked even more in a few years. Cease, Arraez, Suarez, King, Profar, and Higgy are all FAs within 2 years. That combined with the fact Machado, Bogaerts, Darvish, Crone, Musgrove, and Suarez are all on the wrong side of 30 means they can't wait. The Padres currently only have 3 prospects above a 45 FV according to fangraphs that haven't made their debut. They have one of the worst farm systems in the league depth wise. They have nobody to call up for 2 years minimum. I dont think there is a fixing the farm before all highly paid players are not in winning form.
