Funny, I was supposed to be in your orientation class starting May 13th. My youngest graduated from HS May 17 and we had the celebration of that event on the 26th. No way I could miss that. So I postponed until June 3. The video about orientation is very helpful. Luckily I am older so I have everything I need together. I am actually retired from a career in public safety, so after 32 years starting my next career. Good luck sir.

Listen to him as far as getting out of truck! I kept my left door shut and hauling ass 24/7/365 ! Made lots of money for the company, running 2 and 3 log books working 70-90 hrs a week, married and divorced 3x in 18 years, Drove OTR for 30 years hauling swinging meat. Now the doctors have told me that I'll be lucky to make it to my 55th bday in 2 years

I took my training years ago and went to work for CRST. I soon found out that trucking just wasn't for me and I wound up quitting. I didn't like being away from my wife and I got a huge case of truck drivers blues. It really surprised me when I heard you say your were going to get into trucking. I have to say that I really enjoyed your corvette channel and it made me want one even more. I'm going to be 70 in August and I still want a Vette.

Chuck, looking at the alley dock and your description of the testing brought a (hopefully useful) thought to mind. I frequently sit in truck stops and watch drivers back into open parking spaces. Its really OBVIOUS who is a new driver and who the seasoned ones are. What you were taught regarding the test is fine for testing. But every space is different. Surely Smitty will teach you to adapt to the circumstances. If you can changes a 90ⁿ back into a 45ⁿ back because you adjusted your set up, do it. You passed your CDL. Nobody's testing you now. Make it as easy on yourself as you can. Enjoy your time off. That's what I'm doing, too.
@TheTulsaTrucker5 жыл бұрын
Jim, you are absolutely correct. That alley dock is seldom used in the “real world”. I used the 45 the majority of the time when backing at shippers and receivers. We all start off new but with practice get better and better. If I don’t have to back I don’t. Pull through is your friend when you can do it. I could careless to be a backing stud. 😂😂. I appreciate you sir.

@@TheTulsaTrucker is your logic to have a CDL so you'll pretty much always be able to get a job, whether that's local or OTR? Depends on what you are hauling, where is the shipper and receiver located. Like Florida to California won’t pay jack maybe 1.20 mile if your lucky. Now from Cali to let’s say New Jersey it can be over 2.00 a mile. So 5-6k

Once you get a bit more experience as a driver, you should join a local driver such as LTL , you make good money. If you don’t want to do P&D (Pick ups and deliveries) you can do linehaul, driver meet switch trailers and come back same day. That way your home everyday with your family.

@@TheTulsaTrucker but may I ask, at 39 hours you are getting detention pay right?

Albert Maruggi depends on the customer. Detention pay doesn’t come close to what you would be earning driving. What allot of these customers do is move the pick up time which causes you to miss out on detention pay. It’s a huge game and the drivers never win.

@@TheTulsaTrucker whoa that's not right. There's a difference between whinny not fair, and dang not right. Plenty of stuff is unfair that people can't do much about, but when it's not right that's different. I feel the same way about zip code to zip code pay. I mean with all the technology in the industry truckers are still getting paid zip to zip? : (

Congratulations on getting your cdl. So after PSD and before TNT, they will help you train to pass the test?

Hey chuck, I’m trying to email you, I would love to ask you a couple of questions. Or even give you a call. I’m starting out my CDL tomorrow and I would love to get some feedback from you. Hope to hear from you. Take care.

Good luck driva! Please please don't use shoulders of interstates for rest areas, checking qual comm, or squirting the dirt!!! Seems to be a lot of that lately...

I have to agree with you Pete. Nothing like your own bed and shower. Being home with the family is very much needed and they all got big hugs 🤗

Advice. Give up the OTR life right away and do LTL.$30 an hour, home daily and normal hours (day delivery and night linehaul) Heads up to anyone in or looking into trucking

Definitely doing LTL in 12-18 months. Just wanted to experience OTR because of the Mad respect I have for these drivers.
