An attempt at safety is NOT safety. I feel bad for the kid who had faith in his father’s poor decision to travel in that tomb.

The three strike system seems so counterintuitive to the blatant disregard for safety during the sub building process. It’s clear the three strike system only existed to trick paying passengers into ignoring the other glaringly terrible red flags. The ultimate con by a narcissist that unfortunately ended the life of several innocent people.

theres a fine difference between high risk mission and suicide mission. if you intend to go back safely, you put more effort in the vessel structure to make sure it will hold out long until you are back to safe place. what stockton did is a suicide in a cloud of experimental

@@lqfr8813 i would definately not sail with him or with this sub, but suiside is the wrong word. By all accounts I have seen, he was taking risks he should not have taken, but he was not suicidal. Iif anything, he probably had such a high opinion of himself that he thought it was infallible. We should also not forget that it had 11 successful missions, and we have still not seen the official explanation of the cause of the accident. My money is on the carbon to titanium seal, but would be nice to see an official assesment before we attribute blame.

It's only "high risk" when you get into a submersible that's built like Titan. Submersibles---properly designed, properly tested, and classed--had an unblemished 60+ year safety record, until Mr. "At some point, safety is just pure waste" came along with his Tonka toy.

I can see Stockton walking through Home Depot looking at fans saying, "surely this fan would work under water as a propulsion system, and would totally work at depth. Why have a proper navigation system when I can go to Gamestop, pick up a controller and then Best Buy to pick up a monitor. Who needs an emergency system when you can just use one button."

Not to defend oceangate, but I really like that this “mission speacialist” own up to the fact that he willingly and with open eyes signed up to a dangerous journey on an experimental vessel. The safety of the vessel is for me only half of the equation. The other half is who travelled on it, and what they had been told. Some humans willingly risk their life for a thrill all the time. They climb mount everest, they base jump, they free solo, they do extreme skiing, etc. etc. Stockton really should be allowed to risk his own life and that of others who willingly accepted the risk. The issue is whether he actually sold tourist tickets. In that case safety should be required.
@madreepАй бұрын
They weren't actually mission specialists, the title is nothing more than a legal loophole because he was not allowed to take paying passengers.
@torben777Ай бұрын
@@madreep It is a question of definition. We have also had mission specialists who paid to go to the ISS. To me it is more a question of what they were told and how it was sold. If it was sold as a safe ticket to Titanic, there is no excuse. If it was sold as a highly risky expedition, and people wanted to go anyway, they also have to share the blame. If I decide to take up base jumping, I will have no right to complain if I hit the ground hard.
@mikezappulla4092Ай бұрын
It’s obvious that you have a slender grasp regarding the difference between suicidal and risky behavior. Bungee jumping without a rope is not risk taking behavior, it’s suicide. This would be more akin to bungee jumping with a rope that rope experts have told you would not hold your weight and would snap. Most people would surmise that if the rope cannot hold your weight then it’s no different than having no rope at all. Getting into a submarine that was never certified, the lack of transparency from ocean gate about the numerous vetted experts objecting due to safety concerns and blatantly telling Mr Rush the vehicle would fail, yet asking the passengers to sign a waiver detailing a general risk disclaimer is misleading and negligent. Sure there was risk but in 60 years there has not been an accident with a submersible because of the precautions taken when manufacturing and designing them. The “mission specialist” did not receive full disclosure of all the risk as has been pointed out numerous times in this hearing. I’m not sure they would consider the testimony that the sub would implode as risk taking.
@jamesdunphy6262Ай бұрын
Should put to limits deep for any small submarines. If it can reach to bottom like. 500 feets down than stay anywhere under 500 feet deep no more than that. So that way if sink. Can get them out safely instead deeper can crush the submarines like a can of pop. That cannot handle water pressure. Stay under the limits deeps. I donno.
@HolzDennisАй бұрын
Where did he take that information? Had he known this after the Implosion?
@madreepАй бұрын
They knew the risk before it happened, but many didn't care. This guy testified that he understood the risk, and if it happened, so be it. The lady the day before had the same attitude. Which is fine, if they want to knowingly accept the risk it's on them. But no way did the child on board the day of the implosion knowingly accept that risk. He was legally an adult, but at 19 you're not old enough to freely make that decision when your dad purchased the tickets and begged you to go.
