@AM-dw2eq6 ай бұрын
True. The only automated callouts are “100, 50, 30, 10”. However on approach the PM calls “1000 feet”, which the PF repeats along with airspeed and sink rate. And then the PM also calls “500”. So I don’t think they got that low without knowing it, they just thought they were closer to the airport than they were because of some navigation error that hopefully will be revealed internally at least.

fuel costs and BASING for the airline
@overyourheadtampa5 ай бұрын
Before a flight is ever boarded, the pilots or logistics group for the airline have to select alternate airports as the destination in cases where the main destination is closed or unable to land. They are required to carry enough fuel on board to make the main flight, plus make to the alt destination with x time of fuel remaining with a normal landing at the alternate. They also know the price of fuel and airlines likely set preferred alternative airports with this in mind so refueling isn't as expensive. Could also be landing fees for commercial traffic that vary based on the airport which drives the decision for alternative destinations, or even crew timeouts and availability that may also be a reason. A lot goes into alternative airport decisions.
