I can tell you I have been self isolating myself for 12 years now, and It is a brutal way to live. While being around others is worse, I do have to do it once or twice every few months. I can't imagine wanting to be around people and not even having a choice.

I always imagined and wished that they had confirmed it in the movie that the Ship woke him up early because it started running diagnostic checks on itself and noticed it had some technical issues starting to come up. So it woke him up because he is a mechanic and might have been able to fix it. And then continue the same story, that he couldn’t stand being alone, woke someone up ect. They end up saving the ship and living lives together.
@CallMeSirEntertainment4 ай бұрын
Well as you can see in the intro scene, the Ship knows how to repair itself to an extent, considering how it says "Repairing..." on the console when there are errors.

This is one of my favorite movies. Titanic in outer space with Jack & Rose saving the ship and the "Passengers". If he didn't wake her, they would have not been able to save everyone.😉 Another great movie is "Edge of Tomorrow", with Tom Cruise.

Pretty good space movie! Really highlights the isolation factor of long-duration spaceflight well. Another one with a heavy psychological focus I would recommend is a British film called Sunshine by Danny Boyle.

I'm so glad to see someone react to this and enjoy the movie and also understand how hard that choice was for Jim. I like how the movie shows his struggle and him trying to talk himself out of doing it, the drowning man line is perfect. It doesn't justify but explains the desperation of someone reaching out for anything to stay afloat.

I absolutely love this movie because of the psychology behind it. Some people might think that they can deal with loneliness because some of us already don't have a lot of social interractions. But there is a tremendous difference between few social interractions with other human beings, and none at all. When someone don't have many social interractions, he still sees people when going out, at the store, the bakery, talking with some people here and there, even if it's only messages with strangers. We all have social interractions often, even if we feel lonely. That's why there's a difference between "feeling lonely", and "being alone". Him, he's just compleeetely alone. All he can do is watch presentation videos from the other colony members, and talking to a robot (Which is nowhere near talking to a real human). Now add to this the knowing that you have the possibility to not be alone anymore, it's right there, right in front of you, and the only thing that keeps you from doing it is moral. But you start to lose your head because of the complete loneliness, to the point you want to do what he tried to do... I mean, there is only 2 options here: You actually do it, or you wake up someone else. Absolutely no one could just live and resist to the temptation, no matter what they say. Some might last longer than him, yes, but others might last a lot less too. More than 1 year of being utterly alone is unimaginable... So yeah, love this movie, because even with the plot problems, the philosophy and psychology of it is just so interesting to watch and to think about.

What you get to see is the depths of what loneliness can drive a human being to do. Ultimately a selfish act but then redeemed at the end by love. Just a really well written script, superb acting and some interesting interactions of the human condition. It's not the destination that is really important but the journey you live through. 😅 Glad you gave this movie a view. It is one of my absolute favorites!! 🎉

It always felt to me like there was heavy studio interference in this movie. The director is very european, and I think the original idea had much more thought provoking moral conondrums that got polished away by the studio during the process. This always felt like a movie that could have been way better than it is.

Good choice. "Passengers" doesn't get much love mostly because it isn't PC enough. Chris Pratt's character should at least die for his sins. Of course they could have rewritten it to put Jennifer Lawrence in the Chris Pratt situation, but that just wouldn't work, would it? You can't have HER do the bad thing. Of course any woman would be noble enough to just do the 90 years, so there's no story, right? And then there's a contingent of unimaginative types who'd prefer to have Chris Pratt be a creepy serial slasher, waking up women only to kill them after a while. No thank you to any of that. Boring. Now me, I could do a year standing on my head. Maybe even two. But it isn't a year of course, it's a life sentence in solitary confinement, knowing there's no escape and on crap rations to boot. I lean toward liking happy endings too, though I don't insist on it, so I actually like this movie just the way it is.

21:57 / 21:58 This is when the movie broke my heart into pieces the for the first time. All things considered, I find the way they fall in love the most romantic thing I have ever seen. The core of the movie, essentially. And this is space for me. Scary, of course. But so is love. Falling in love is scary. But also so UTTERLY beautiful.... By the end, I was so wrecked by this movie.... 💔💘😍🥹😭

I just saw this masterpiece for the first time myself today and I was blown away. 🥹 I cried SEVERAL times. And WHY are there this few reactions to it? I can find two. Exactly. 🤔🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ I'm sorry, what? This is from 2016, right? So I assume, either they're CRAZY with that one in terms of copyright claims on YT or there is some sort of conspiracy or some sort of really bad press in relations to this movie. I don't care. Don't wanna hear about it. I saw it and felt something I haven't felt in a VERY long time. Not this strong. And I like to think that I am fairly intelligent. I don't think, I missed anything obviously wrong in the movie. But after all, it's sci-fi...😅
