mta the fact that you commented this is unbelievably selfish and stupid. The dead don’t care about being disrespected but that doesn’t mean you disrespect the dead. Especially since that man gave his life to his country and the very least you could do is sit in your seat and be respectful to the dead soldier that is being moved from the plane.

You should never blame it on age. Age is nothing anyone can control and just because someone of one age did something doesn't mean everyone that happens to be that old doas the same. Juging someone for there age is similar to juging by sex. It's out of there control and has a lot of steriotipes attached to it. I know that age also has to do with brain development, but if you think a child can't possibly reach the mental ability of an adult in any way, then you are also saying that man can't have a sensitivity to emotions because 'there brains aren't made that way'. It may be true for some, or even most, but it is by far not for everyone. This probably issnt much of a suprise, but I'm 16 years old and therefore a teenager. And I'm sick of always beeing treated badly by other people for it. They juge me without knowing me. I got yelled at by older people so many times for things I didn't do. I ride my bike to school, people assume that it was specifically me who drives around in parking lots, doing stunts and endangering people. I walk my dog, someone yells at me that me as a child aren't handeling my dog right, and that I will let his resedue lie instead of picking it up. Because I let him sniff on there pressous grass. I talk to a younger kid, emidently told not to bully. To 'stick to my age'. I'm maybe 2 years older seriously. I'm constantly told that "a young child like you should listen to the older! How respectless! " oh sorry that I tried to tell you that couching loudly without covering with your hands and letting your trash lying around issnt very nice. Or that smoking in front of a kindergarden/school is not ok. Or that you miss teacher should actually teach us stuff instead of writing bookpages on the border and then playing snake on your phone. But I'm just a kid right? So if I dare to criticise then I'm just a trubble child and rude teenager right? Oh and of course mom. I just told you that I need to studdy for tomorrow but you want cake and somone to complain to so I go and buy it for you and spend my hours listening to your ranting. But actually giving advice on the topic is no thing I'm allowed to do right? Because who cares that I have opinions? And who cares that I never went on a party before and that I only wear make up to formal meetings? Or that I take school seriously and do my stuff every time? Or that I help cleaning at home? That I'm more patient and calm then my parants and often it'd me who ends an argument by relenting because that's just my fate even when I'm in the right. Or how about that I treat everyone kindly and that I'm never rude to people when they haven't been? No that's all meaningless. Because dare I, a 16 year old say that respect is not given by titel or age but behaviour, and that I won't automatically take your word for gold just because you happend to have a vew years on me. No that's absolutely terrible. No 16 year old should ever be set in there belives and question the things they are told. Sorry for that😅 my rant got a little our of control. I'm just so sick of people treating me like a second hand citizen and assume who I am because of my age.

I was at the gate when a fallen soldier came through. Having never experienced it, I didn’t know what was going on. All the vets stood up and saluted and you could hear a pin drop in the concourse. People can be considerate, I went almost 40 years before I heard "Thank you for your service". However, in 1976 (Vietnam was recently over when I enlisted, I stayed in until 1982) I heard the stewardess state they would be late getting into the gate. I had to make a connecting flight, ( we might get in just as my connecting flight would depart)and it appeared I might have to run, and still not make my connection. I was in uniform, and went up front to speak with the crew, they stated they understood, but couldn't do anything to help. I was almost at the back of the plane. A gentleman (in first class) looked at me, and said, "I'm not in a rush, lets swap seats" he stood up, looked at the other first class passengers and said, "I' can't imagine anyone up here is in a bigger rush then you, you should leave first". I ran, just made my flight, but I still am thankful to that gentleman. I was only stationed in the USA, not a combat vet, but enjoyed all the different skills I learned.

Thanks for that story, bro. I got out of the marines in 76, I was at an airport in if memory serves me France of all places with no way to make it due to the unexpected huge lines. Suddenly a stewardess asked if anyone was a veteran and I raised my hand. She asked if I had my DD214 which of course, who carries that around, but I did have my dog tags which I only wear because of a potentially deadly allergic reaction to a given medication I have and need to wear notice. She looked at me and said don’t worry about it, I believe you and she took me right to the front and onto my flight. Couldn’t thank her enough.

They look for photos of the soldiers (to put a face to each name), research their history and try to find family members. Time will not dim the glory of their deeds. About 25 years ago I was traveling by plane in Russia on business. When we landed and I was walking down the stairs to the runway a casket was being taken out of the Jet. I said "sad" to the flight attendant and she said "he was soldier". So having served in the US Army I step out of the line and saluted. I stood there as a man pushed the casket along. Two men seeing what I was doing also step out of the line and said in Russian "soldier?" I replied "Yes", they both came to attention and saluted. As we stood there saluting the captain of the jet came out and stood beside us and saluted to. We all held our salutes till the casket was gone. The men looked at me and said "but you are not Russian. Why would you salute?" I told them "because I too was once a soldier and we are all brothers."

About 12 years ago while waiting for my connecting flight at Midway in Chicago, the ground crew announced that the inbound aircraft (our outbound aircraft) would be stopping short of the gate so that the family of a fallen soldier could meet his coffin that was on that plane. As the plane neared the terminal quite literally everyone (hundreds of people) in the boarding area crowded the large windows that overlooked the tarmac to see the hand off. The silence in the boarding area was beyond memorable. So were the audible gasps and crying. I am by nature anti war, but I understand when you must fight, and when you must take a stand. These men and women who give the ultimate sacrifice and the families and friends they leave behind are to be cherished and thanked. A moment of silence is the least we can offer to them. Shame on those who could not wait long enough to pay respect.

I bet half of them were LATE or ALMOST late for any CONNECTING flights that were waiting for them at the airport they were now at, because they had to ‘respectfully’ wait back at the LAST airport while they LOADED the body onboard the plane, probably after one the funeral procession had one of those super long funeral processions as the body was loaded onboard where rows of people play bagpipes in honor of the guy, then they had to ‘respectfully’ wait longer while the bagpipe people and whoever else was on the turmac watching the body be loaded up who were all surrounding the plane all packed up their stuff and left the area so they wouldn’t get HURT before the plane was FINALLY allowed to LEAVE the area, probably making EVERYBODY on board SUPER late for whatever was waiting for them at the next airport. Think about the EXPENSIVE missed flights that half of the the passengers probably would have to rebook and reschedule because of the delay on a flight that was SUPPOSED to be leaving and hopefully ARRIVING at a SPECIFIC time when the passengers originally booked the flight but the flight winds getting sidelined, not by bad weather or faulty plane equipment, but because the plane industry allowed a funeral procession to do a who knows how long leaving ceremony on the turmac for a dead fallen soldier who was being loaded on the plane.

I was in a uniform that seemed clean but when u live in a war zone its hard to keep anything actually clean. This guy had a important vacation he HAD to get to and needed a seat on an earlier flight. The lady right before he shoved me outta the way said there was only one seat left so I am assuming he heard her. I looked at the guy, then looked at the lady behind the desk that was just dumbfounded on what she just saw. I said if there is a seat just let him have it and I walked over to the bar across from the gate and ordered a beer. About 10 mins later the lady behind the desk came running over to tell me they had one extra seat left. The guy that pushed me outta the way was standing in front of me in the line waiting to get the ticket and the person got to him, said coach, then got to me and said first class. The look on the duds face was pricless. There are just shitty people out there.

I've been on three deployments my entire military career and flew in and out of Atlanta quite a bit. I must say I have nothing but respect for the airline workers that work in Atlanta. They treated every service member respectfully and helped us as much as possible. I flew mostly Delta while in the service and was upgraded every time to 1st Class when available without asking. There were times when I was able to get earlier flights and was put in front of their higher tier members on the standby lines. People don't understand that our journey started days ago trying to get home. We're not authorized to fly in civilian clothing and have to fly in uniform. Service members aren't trying to win over any perks and just trying to get home. Flying to Kuwait on Space A, waiting around for a flight back to the states and then flying back home takes days. For those very reasons I've been grateful of how I've been treated and fly exclusively with Delta whenever possible to this day, even years after leaving the service. Their support has won me over to be one of their loyal customers.

I know this is late, but: I was on a flight from Texas to Colorado for work about 10 years ago and there was a group of active duty soldiers on leave flying stand-by. All but one had 1st class passengers move to coach and give up their seats for those guys. They got food, drinks, anything they wanted and paid for nothing. Their sergeant sat next to me and talked my arm off the whole time. All he talked about was his wife and children and I was never so glad to listen to someone in my life. I still remember him.

If I was on this plane, I would not be able to contain myself. I don't think i've ever shouted in anger in my entire life. Even when I played football, I was the gentle giant that tried not to hit people too hard. But this is just beyond unrespectful. To think that people can't stay seated for 3 fucking minutes for the ground crew to drive the belt loader up to the plan, and remove the casket. I worked on the ground at an airport for 2 years, the ground crew drives up the second that the engines are turned off and they get to work. These people don't have any excuse for what they did and I don't care if it was the first person to stand or the last person to stand before that casket was removed, every single one of them does not deserve any respect. No offense, but as someone who has worked at an airport. You should remember how much time truly matters. A few of the passengers could've had less than 20 minutes to transfer to a connecting flight. And "3 fucking minutes" could mean the difference between a passenger making it to their flight or not making it (thereby, wasting 100s of dollars). There are complications. They didn't know they had to print a certain document, they get stopped for a "suspicious item" that's actually benign. I'm really sorry, but you can't expect life to grind to a halt because of one person. People die everyday. Hell, I wouldn't even halt my life if a President's casket was being driven to his grave near my house. At my funeral, if random people are disrespectful like this, what do I care? I'm too dead. Plus, they weren't people that mattered in my life anyway.
@Moose300
@Moose300 3 жыл бұрын
@@fortherepublic9878 As someone who has worked several different jobs inside the terminal and on the ground at an airport, I can say with complete confidence that those couple minutes are nothing. If someone forgets something they need to print, that's their problem. If security has to inspect something, that's an entirely different matter but it's an exception, not a rule. You don't make decisions for the population based on something that happens to less than 1% unless you just completely don't give a shit about efficiency which you are trying to use to back your argument. Also there is a difference between doing something because you care about it and just doing it like any decent human being would when asked. The one thing that I agree with is i'm not going to care about anything when i'm dead. But there are people that care about me, there are people that are going to expect the bare minimum amount of respect for my memory. Also the thing that every single person should understand is that even though they didn't know him or his family, that person died fighting for their country, fighting for the rights and freedom of every single person. Just because you don't give a shit, doesn't mean it's a big fucking chore to stay sitted for a few minutes out of respect. Then you can go home and tell your family that you had to endure such hardship.

Actually I read an article about this. One of the things the article said is that after the plane landed, the military escort on board got up and left the plane. When the escort got up and was leaving, other people then got up to leave. So I think part of what happened is that people were just confused. Yeah somebody was saying on the intercom to stay seated until the casket was removed but honestly the fact that people got up to leave after the escort was leaving makes me think they probably assumed that when the escort left it was all over. The retired military member who was quoted in the news video about this of course was crystal clear about how this tradition works but the average American citizen doesn't know anything about it as less than 10% of the United States population is retired military.
