I'm no doctor but I reason you'd have to eat and digest the food to some extent before the rear ended explosions begin and that takes hours. Unless the food has some extreme laxative properties. If the food is bad enough, our body should reject it pretty quickly by vomiting which is what seems to have happened. Still having people in an enclosed metal tube spewing into paper bags...the sounds..the smells..

In 1975 a Japan Airlines flight had a similar disaster. 197 people got sick from an omelette. They made an emergency landing in Anchorage on the way to Paris. 144 were hospitalized. The only fatality was the Japanese head of catering who committed suicide. True story. 😢😢😢😢😢

OK… However, a hotel room, food vouchers, and a rebooking do NOT compensate for day(s) lost on any trip. I would bet that many of these passengers were heading to vacation and their time is valuable and limited. Delta should provide a free round trip, no restrictions or time limits, to each passenger.

Human beings require a variety of foods. You can't single out any particular food. Dried pulses (like lentils and chickpeas) and canned sardines are much cheaper than cheeseburgers for the satiation level they provide per dollar. More nutritious foods are more satiating than less healthy foods.
