Everytime I hear this song, I look up into the night sky and imagine, among and beyond the stars, countless worlds where beauty thrives like the evergreen trees and think, "I wonder if these elves and others of their race live on worlds orbiting other stars beyond our reach."

I can totally understand you. Especially considering how flawed humanity is. With all the pollution, wars and abuse, how psycopaths run countries and everything must be politizised. And even down to the fact how broken our biology itself is. I never felt much connection to human race, it feel we are like spiritual prisoners, forced to constantly reincarnate as those filty animals. But thats just me though.

A great detail : you can sing it in english with the exact same rythm. This poem was written in english by Tolkien in the LOTR. It was translated into sindarin for the film's purpose (imagine the guy who knows enough sindarin to actually translate iambic verses into it). It is a hymn to Varda, goddess of the stars, wife of Manwë god of the airs. A quote from Tolkien's Silmarilion: “Of all the Great Ones who dwell in this world the Elves hold Varda most in reverence and love. Elbereth they name her, and they call upon her name out of the shadows of Middle-earth, and uplift it in song at the rising of the stars”. Another detail, a bit confusing : Besides this english-written hymn, Tolkien composed a much similar one directly in sindarin, which you find in the LOTR as well. Here it comes, with translation: A Elbereth Gilthoniel silivren penna míriel o menel aglar elenath! Na-chaered palan-díriel o galadhremmin ennorath, Fanuilos, le linnathon nef aear, sí nef aearon! The Silmarillion states that the three clans of the Eldar who agreed to undertake the great journey were stopped along the way by Melkor raising up the Misty Mountains as a deterrent, after which a number of the Teleri abandoned the march east of the Misty Mountains and became the Nandor, settling along the Anduin and in the woods that would later become Lorien and Mirkwood. Some of these later resumed their travels west, and settled in Eriador and Beleriand (the latter of which became the Green Elves of Ossiriand). Those Eldar willing to cross the Misty Mountains continued the march west to Beleriand. If Cuivienen had been in the westernmost areas of Beleriand, then where would the Elves have marched to? How and why did they cross the Misty Mountains? It wouldn't have taken them all that time to reach the shores and get ferried across Belegaer if they were already in Western Beleriand.
