This song is a symbol of my heyday. 2015-2017 were good years. I was a junior high school student at the time, and when I was playing Winning Eleven 2016, I came across this song. When I heard this song, I was very shocked. I still listen to this song. Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of my happy junior high school days. This song will remain in my life.

came from PES 2016, but this song actually caught my attention. before i know the song title, i already felt lifted up just listening to the song. what's more interesting is it is on F Major, which i find usually 'not lifting up'. to be able to make this out of F Major, the chord progression is superb and the contrast from the bridge and chorus really gets me.

I don't know if anyone has said this yet but I think this music video says a lot. In the beginning, Michael is being pushed around and looks sad and scared. That represents Manners (referring to what he said about his albums in a past interview). He doesn't know what's happening to him. Towards the middle of the video, he knows what's going on and he just wants it to end, and he looks like he's over all of his past situation. That's Gossamer. Then, the end of the music video shows him being happy and content. He shows a new attitude towards life, and it's great to him now. This (I think) will be the theme of Kindred.

annad477 im glad to see that you can find a meaning behind a video, or a song (though it may or may not be the artists' intention or vision) and make it your own. the way you describe, it i can definitely see. That's one thing i love about music, or art. you can take pieces from any part of the work and relate it to your own life sometimes.

(My basic interpretation of this video) Most of him walking through the crowd kind of annoyed made me realize that we're not that different of people. You see, he's walking around and you can tell he doesn't want to be there, but everyone around him wants him to enjoy himself. By the end he sees that there's a reason to enjoy himself and he's fitting in nicely, becoming the center of attention. You gotta conform a little bit, fake a smile, get uncomfortable. Other people want us to be happy and we should be happy because of those people. We shouldn't let ourselves be brought down by our (mental) illnesses, but instead we should work together as a team and just simply try to be happy. That's all that anyone wants to be is.. happy.

The only thing about this truly thought out interpretation, to me, is that you mentioned his illness. As you listen to Passion Pit's discography, you get a seriously beautiful spectrum of a story about Michael Angelakos...the good with the bad. I don't think that his "illness" actually is the driving force behind Passion Pit's overall goal. I would agree that without it, he and his listeners would experience overall, something that would not at all feel as visceral and honestly vulnerablr. I say this because he truly seems to be a person who was initially born feeling stuck inside his head and regardless of any afflictions, he remains there still. It seems though nowadays, he has figured out how to more effortlessly pass back and forth from himself internally and himself in the world outside his walls. Music seems to have aided him in unifying those two self scenarios by letting him relieve some of his conflicts, along with some of the weighing thoughts and issues in his life that, up until Kindred, were preventing him from finding solace and peace in his own self. I think many people are the same in that respect. Those of us who have issues with stepping out into the "outside world" all seek escape and refuge in certain things. I would even venture to say that most PEOPLE do this. Passion Pit is truly an amazing, audio portrait of what it feels like to be inside the head of someone who simply wanted to paint a picture for themselves; an attempt to make real the things that both haunted and blessed Angelakos as an individual. An attempt to figure out if the things he faced could be made musically tangible and then analyzed and organized...conquered or embraced. To breathe life into these things could possibly mean validating a person's ability to harness things that may seem so unreal and uncontrollable. His work seems to have been his gift and chance from life to make something beautiful out of the cons associated with solitude that is manifested internally due to a lack( along with a genuine want and need) of a sturdy haven founded in self- understanding. Chunk of Change was life's gift in the form of a "fluke", Manners was his mockery of his cynicism, Gossamer was his confrontation, struggle, and realization of his true self... along with his frustrated times of having to swallow a few bitter pills of self disappointment. Lastly, it was his step towards hope and genuine belief in his own inner strength. Kindred is his answer and validation that he chose the right path for himself. It is redemption and rekindling and his finding of unweighted, uninhibited feeling of joy and accomplishment. He was able to find what he wanted when he allowed himself to finally leap under the pretense of inner faith and love for the people and things he alienated himself from without realizing initially. I know this is incredibly detailed, but Angelakos and his musical stories have been with me throughout every chapter of my own recent 7 year journey. If having a cognitive anomaly is a "disability"after hearing and feeling his story thus far, then maybe certain differences in people should be reevaluated for lack of evidence of long term self- stunting. Angelakos had his struggles like any of us...his just happened to be more beautiful than most. Maybe his demons were just a sign to us all that uniqueness comes with a slightly tarnished map that takes a person along the unmistakeable paths less trodden in order to reach an ending that has potential to be a reflection of nothing short of a true finale of accomplishment.

lyrics: Tell me what does it take to make good now How many years do you wait? Oh, and now all of the clouds are combining The flickering light's just a flame Oh but yeah, I'm so tired I've been away for so many years But I guess I'll just wait a bit longer I'll stay 'til they open the gates All my life I stay here waiting Every new year, always making me Feel as though there's nothing up there but One day you came out of nowhere 1985 was a good year The sky broke apart then you appeared Dropped from the heavens, they call me a dreamer I won't lie, I knew you would belong here Lifted off the ground I took your hands and pulled you down Because 1985 was a good year I won't lie, I knew you would belong here Oh well, how many years has it been now? How many days went to waste? Now the rain and the thunder are clashing The Sun's got a smile 'cross the face Oh, but yeah I'm so tired I fight so hard and come back beaten Beacon, burn through it brightly Soared through a sliver of space All my life I stay here waiting Every new year, always making me Feel as though there's nothing up there but One day you came out of nowhere 1985 was a good year The sky broke apart then you appeared Dropped from the heavens, they call me a dreamer I won't lie, I knew you would belong here Lifted off the ground I took your hands and pulled you down Because 1985 was a good year I won't lie, I knew you would belong here Lifted up Lift us back to the sky and the world above Lifted up Lifted up 1985 was a good year The sky broke apart then you appeared Dropped from the heavens, they call me a dreamer I won't lie, I knew you would belong here Lifted off the ground I took your hands and pulled you down Because 1985 was a good year I won't lie, I knew you would belong here

I think the beginning is perfect. To me, this song is about finding another person who understand you, a "kindred" spirit (Album Plug Alert) and all the, sort of, lost time before. Being out of place and lost in the raging party is a great metaphor for this feeling, where everyone around you is having the time of their lives, while you are just hoping to pass the time. Anyhow, I

This is my interpretation of the video, which I think fits the song pretty well. The video sees Michael navigating through the crowded people in a club, which doesn't seem symbolic at all, but it actually is. The first part of the song talks about ways to "make good" after an argument and how his disease is tiring him, but he still wants to see if something good comes in his life. Hence the monotone lighting. When the chorus kicks in (at about 1:21), notice how the lights suddenly change to a combination of bright club colours - this is a direct way of saying "when you came into my life, you lit it up". Then, in the second part of the song, his wondering of how many years he spent searching for happiness comes back, with the people clashing one into the other ("Now the rain and the thunder are clashing / The Sun's got a smile across the face" - really straight-forward, look at the people around him). When the chorus kicks in, this time the lights are wavy, dreamy, in hypnotising patterns, to symbolise the effect his now-wife had on him when he fell in love with her. The final orange light represents peace, now that he has her by his side. A nice little detail is how, toward the end of the video, he's being filmed from above and he's looking up - looking to take her hands and pull her down. :)

I'm so glad they put a cautionary noted on this video! Because I can't stand watching this. It hurts my head too much. And I came here specifically after hearing this song on the radio. Looking forward to hearing more of this album!! And I'm sure that I don't have "photo sensitive epilepsy".

Passion Pit stop being jerks and release the rest of Kindred. Love this song and Where the Sky Hangs. Such an underrated group!
