Thank you for posting this. It's so important for people to understand how we've gotten here. The world of cinema would be a bleaker place without the impact of Peckinpah's fearless approach.

Straw Dogs was a brilliant brilliant film which touched on so many interesting themes: the dilemma of man appearing as a coward in from off one's lady, finding out the profound moral character of one's partner under stressful conditions, the ambivalence of some women's response to certain types of rape with certain types pot partners , the socio-economic tension lines existing between a rural english male population England and a brilliant American mathematician from a city, an initiation journey of self discovery in terms of one's moral values, the treatment of mental disease, the provocative dress and behaviour of some women, the opposition between the clergy and scientists on moral issues, sexual politics and manipulation, jealousy, the english class systems and the relations between the educated and uneducated, the role of the law in remote and economically under-privileged communities, a cinematographically turning point after clockwork orange and a new genre investigating themes of male violence and sadism, the inherent phallocratic violence involved in groups of male hunters and many more....brilliant acting by most of the cast. The remake was a mouth rise version fit for a dumb American audience,

My Top 5 films by Sam Peckinpah : 5. "Junior Bonner "--------a timeless theme for Peckinpah, the ruination ------the corrupting-----the end of the west, as he remembers & romances it. That theme is dramatized by one family, & their struggles to remain a family in changing times; a theme Peckinpah revisited, over & over. ------------4. " The Ballad Of Cable Hogue" , his most personal, & favorite film. Stella Stevens was just brilliant. ---------3. " Straw Dogs" . Though VERY imperfect, the buildup of sheer , unrelenting tension of one man , badly outmatched against 3, & where that takes him, is masterfully done. It's hard to watch, & Peckinpah intended it to be. -----------2. "Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid" . To appreciate this film, you must see the " Ted Turner Long Version". That one is closest to Peckinpah's vision, & this dark, violent film becomes beautiful. Coburn was brilliant. --------------1. " The Wild Bunch" . THE best movie ever made. ---------Period. -------------from start, to end, a Masterpiece. ------------------WolfSky9, 72 y/o

I recall after seeing this film, that I never---------ever---------wanted to visit Cornwall, England, because getting the picture of those men out of my head, would be impossible. ------------To this day, I've wondered about Susan George ; was she right for that part ? Would some other actress, someone attractive, but less overtly alluring, have been far better for this story ? --------As for Hoffman, I had not made up my mind about him . Recall, The Graduate was '67, he was already well into his 30's, & I wasn't sold on him ----not at all. Yet, I have to say, he was superb in this role. It was a classic role of the little guy-------literally-------versus the 3 bigger, bad guys, & Hoffman was excellent. ----------Over-all, I loved this film. ---------------------------------WolfSky9, 72 y/o

my favorite peckinpah is the ballad of cable hogue. my second favorite is a tie between junior bonner, ride the high country, the wild bunch, straw dogs, Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid , Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia. third place is a tie between the getaway and cross of iron. honorable mention goes to major dundee and the deadly companions. i really dislike convoy, but at least it LOOKS like a peckinpah film; i can't even say that about the killer elite and the osterman weekend.

Doc directed by Mike Siegel, i thought he might be Don Siegel's son but no, wonderful insight; Peckinpah smuggled his works, now producers would never let those passed, in the way they are made and maybe the raw unwatered betweern the lines too.

Why did the brilliant Ken Hutchison disappear from the big screen and then completely in 1999? I am trying to watch at least some of his movies/series but that's not so easy regarding most of them were made in the 70s and 80s... I watched "Just a boys game" on yt with Frankie Miller, catched some snippets of Wuthering Heights etc. Really would like to know if someone knows why he retired from acting and how he is doing today? :)
